I hear a great deal about how unreliable the 745 BMW's were and how great the 750 is. The 745's can be had for around $20,000 and that makes them look even better to me. Who knows anything about how good or bad they are? I don't mind vehicles that need work on little things but I cannot stand cars that flat out breakdown and leave you. Is it like that or just little stuff? An aftermarket extended warranty will fix the little stuff, but if its a total breakdown car forget it.

If you're only able to spend $20k, then you should NOT be looking at a 7-series.

No European car is going to be maintenance-free -- and the key word is maintenance. It won't explode and leave you sitting in the road in your smoldering boxer shorts, but they just don't design cars to run 100,000 miles before the first scheduled tuneup -- they design cars to run 6-12 months between tuneups. That's how a service economy works.

745s are electrical nightmares... I wouldn't touch one, especially at $20k

Read these two posts, then go take your $20,000 and buy something that's A) less maintenance intensive B) doesn't have fucked up fiber optics C) doesn't scream budget baller.

Buying a 745 is a mistake. There's a reason people like the 750 and hate the 745, and those reasons mostly revolve around a less complex computer system, better reliability, and more power.
