I live in Co, already have a Rem 870 express, and am looking for something to hunt with or have fun with during the zombie apocalypse.

    M1 carbine?

probably won't be getting another one for awhile...

thinking of going the semi route as well.

    no love for the M1?

maybe just too much DOD when I was younger...

Buy an AK and use the remaining 300$ for ammo and magazines.

the Miltias will look much more threatening if the rifles are all matching the military's...

Can you really hunt with an AR?

Fuck yes you can hunt with an AR. What are you looking to kill?

If coyotes are still as big a problem as they were when I lived in CO, that's always a good choice.

It's not that the M1 isn't a fucking fantastic gun, I just don't think it's necessarily the best first rifle.

Build your own AR or buy a CMMG bargain bin for $600 (I would recommend the latter simply because it is cheaper than pretty much any other of the same quality).

    http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com/shop/?cart=2133058&cat=161&

Then go to MidwestPX.com and get some PMags and your choice of BUIS. You'll be out under $700 and have a VERY capable first rifle.

Yeah don't worry about it. If you have any questions about anything let me know (or anything CO specific, like I said I lived there for a long ass time and know good FFLs/laws n shit)

what is the deal with this bargain bin? just random? I dont think I can mentally handle that sort of uncertainty....

It's factory overruns, factory blems, etc. The rifle you get is test-fired and guaranteed to go bang. You can get a hand-picked one for a bit more (+25 bucks) and it will supposedly cosmetically superior. mstad has a CMMG bargain bin rifle and could not find a single flaw with it, including cosmetics.

What can't you handle about the uncertainty?

Honestly if the deal had been around when I was shopping for my AR, I would have done that over building my own. It's cheaper.

M1 Carbine ammo .30 caliber is nearly $1/round if you can find it.
