My next step in upgrading my lenses is a new telephoto zoom. I currently have the 70-300g (g is for garbage). I'm going to get either the 80-200 f/2.8 used for a 70-300vr new. They will both be a little under $500 I think, the used 80-200 being a bit more expensive. I mostly use the zoom for motorcycle riding shots, both on street and track. I hate mine because it has bad blue fringes on high contrast shots, it's soft and slow to focus.

I like how sharp the 80-200 is, but the extra 100mm would be nice and the VR is always great. How do they compare for AF speed? The f/2.8 would be nice a lot of times, but I would have to use a ND filter on the track to be able to use it because I almost always shoot at 1/500 or below.

I'm kinda leaning towards the used 80-200 because I can sell it in a year or two for almost as much as I paid for it and upgrade to the 70-200vr.

Thoughts? Things I haven't thought of?

If it matters, my other lenses are a 18-70 sigma f/2.8-4.5 and 50mm 1.8.

A 10-22 will probably be after the new tele.

Agreed, having the 2.8 on all focal lengths will be very beneficial.

    wow, lol. ok.

Anyone know for sure if the 80-200 will be better quality with a 1.7x or even a 2.0x teleconverter at equivelant zooms with the 70-300vr?

I have read that if you shoot with a 1.4 converter the quality will be comparable
