just got the lens rental, two days early, not included in my rental period so i get two free days :bigthumb:

about the lens. i dunno how i feel about it. is bigger than i had expected it to be. i was thinking of picking this lens up in the future (non IS version) but now it's up in the air. haven't taken any pics with it yet, but from what i've seen, it focuses at about the same speed as my tamron 28-75 f/2.8. only difference is that, the L lens does it silently due to the USM.

i'm also glad i got the battery grip for my rebel xt a few days ago. i can't imagine how much tinier it'd make the rebel look with the lens attached. we'll see how the pics go...

It should focus quite a bit faster than the Tamron 28-75... at least my dad's does. It's a nice lens, if you've got the cash, definitely get one.

Isn't that dependent on camera focus system too? I know between my D70 & my friend's D200, there's a bit of a difference in focusing speed on the the Nikon's 70-200 F2.8.

I have the 70-200 2.8 IS and it focuses quite fast. I can't imagine not having IS. I can shoot as slow as 1/40 at 200mm with IS on and still get a sharp picture.

i'm guessing this is your first experience with a canon L telephoto if you think the 70-200 is big

you get use to it fast. Carry around a 400 2.8 for a while and you'll think nothing of this.

The other thing that helps is an optech pro strap. It seriously takes away 2/3 of the weight when its on your neck or shoulder.

Avaliable light affects the focus speed too.

Go outside with it tommorow, it should haul ass.

handheld/tripod. tripod mode eliminates horizontal movement for panning shots
