Found one used in great condition for $500, is that a good deal?

People that have it, being that it's a non IS model. Is it pretty hard to shoot with if you're trying to catch moving targets?

$500-550 seems to be the going rate for those (on POTN at least)

Am I wasting my time on that lens or should I be saving up for a 2.8 with IS?

I have that lens and shoot my sons' soccer games all the time. Excellent lens! No issues other than the guy behind the camera's mistakes. :bigthumb:

I have the f4/IS and that's plenty good outdoors :dunno: As long as you have steady hands, I think the price tradeoff is okay.

Seeing your last question, I'll offer this...

    1. F4L is great when you're shooting outdoors or with proper lighting. DOF is awesome.

    2. I wish I had bought the 2.8 IS instead because I also like to shoot my sons' hockey games and the lighting is crap in the rink. At some point I plan to upgrade my F4 to the F2.8-IS

I love my f4 for outdoors stuff. Yeah it would be nice to have 2.8 to shoot indoors and everything but for the price I absolutely love it.

I'd say go for it, at worst you sell it for around the same price.

It's histerical for a newbie such as myself to think that I'm looking at buying lens' that cost twice as much as my camera (t1i) :o

    I'm about ready to pick up a used 24-70l for $900 and this 70-200 f4/l for 450

I love it, just bought one brand new last week for $250 off sticker. I'm posting pics later I took with it. Did some panning and action shots it worked phenomenally better than my old piece of shit 75-300

Do you need the zoom? A 200 f/2.8 prime costs just a little more and has better IQ and weighs less.

    http://www.adorama.com/CA702004IS.html

"The image stabilization achieves three shutter speed steps of camera shake correction within 0.5 seconds after the shutter button is depressed halfway and yields correction for up to four full shutter speeds while handheld, providing a new level of performance. Users can also select two IS modes, one for stationary subjects and another for intentional panning."

IS is for people with Parkinson's.

    The 70-200L f4 non-IS is a great lens.

I found a dude locally selling the 70-200 4l for $390. I'm going to check it out, I think it's a sick deal.
