Excuse the shitty flat images. All I have is Picasa at work and I know not how to use it properly (I guess...)

I have heard of many issues with them
so I have been hanging onto normal 70-200 VR

Are they finally all fixed and safe to buy?

What is the main reason to goto the new one? I know soft/vinetteing on corners on ff on some copies of the 70-200 but I have not seen it on mine.

Onlyproblem i know of is the stuff inside the lens which appears to be broken screw threads, but it has not affected function or IQ at all so im not worried.

I couldn't care less about my 70-200's dark corners, but that image stability of the vrII is :bowdown::bowdown:

jesus... i really want to try that lens. i heards its super sharp and the VR is just soo much better.

but for the prices the VR1 are going for now, i dunno if the VRII is worth the 1k it would take to upgrade. mine still gives me the shots i need.

That lens was the most impressive thing I've tried in years. Fucking amazing.

I took 20 shots, handheld, 200mm, at 1/10s. and had to throw out THREE. That shit's unnatural.

If youre using an FX camera, I dont know why you wouldnt. When I used the original on the D3, the edges were just unacceptably soft for me (especially when shooting verticals of people)

I have seen some deviation of this problem. The copy I have has almost 0 problems with this on my D700, but a copy my friend has the corners are dark and the edges softer than a Kleenex.

What is the breakdown of new VRII vs old VR?

How does it compare to IS-II on canon?

Nah, they're just mark II versions of the lens with the same IS I believe.

From Canon's website. The new version has 4-stop IS where the original has 3-stop IS.

Yes, but I don't think it's in any available lenses yet.

Its coming out on the new 70-200.

The new 100L does have their Hybrid IS which actually corrects in 3 dimensions rather than just 2. Pretty awesome stuff but Ive yet to try it.
