What's considered to be decent ammo in this caliber? I see AIM Surplus has a few choices. I need to pick some up for mah new M44, and need suggestions. What's clean? What's dirty? What won't shoot worth a damn?

my roomate always just buys the surplus stuff, but it's corrosive, so he has to clean the gun every time.

I'll only be buying the lacquer case stuff from now on. Copper wash steel doesn't feed for shit in my 91/30

basically, get the cheapest stuff you can :dunno:

If you reload, the HotShot ammo from Big 5 is some great stuff at ~$13/box

I wish they sold the hot shot stuff at my big 5 the only 54r they have is winchester and they're asking 22 dollars a box, (way to much to feed a 90 dollar gun).

I haven't run into anything yet that either or mine disliked. I will tell you this, I've never had a misfire with any surplus. I even have some 1940s Bulgarian garbage that I got ripped off on, and it shoots point of aim at 300 yards.

If you don't plan on reloading, buy some Brown Bear or Silver Bear. Non corrosive, and cheap. I buy it for $8 per 20 at a local shop. You can even get soft point if you plan on hunting with it.

It'll be for the new M44 I got. The battlefield pick-ups. Hasn't arrived yet though. I don't plan to shoot it a whole lot. Just want to have a few rounds on hand for the times I want to though. Definitely won't shoot it enough to justify reloading it either. But when SHTF, I'd like to have a few rounds for it too. Never know when you'll need it.

I got a tin of Bulgarian heavy-ball yellow tip at the gun show for cheaper than what I could find online. $45 for 300 rounds. Shoots great in both of my Mosins.

    This stuff. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=96096435

Winchester makes a good soft point hunting round that runs about $20 for a box of 20

Mine was in pretty good condition, but I guess I skipped over the missing cleaning rod when I inspected it. It shoots great though and is a ton of fun.
