OLDSMAR: An alligator made himself at home in Pinellas County. Authorities say 69-year-old Sandra Frosti of Oldsmar found the 8-foot long alligator in her kitchen late Monday night.

She says the gator must have pushed through the back porch screen door and went inside through an open sliding glass door. It then walked through the living room, down a hall and into the kitchen.

A trapper with Animal Capture of Florida removed the alligator, which had been cut when a plate was knocked to the ground. But no one inside the house was injured.

    ---

I think I would of dumped a mag of 10mm in it.

Will that do the job, they got pretty thick hides and I'd image the skulls aren't that thin either.

Pretty sure that's what the trappers use around here. I had a friend that lived on a lake and a couple times they had to come deal with a gator or two, they set a big old hook with beef lung hooked up to a weightlifting plate and a laundry detergent bottle as a float. Once the bugger got hooked and dragged the float around he'd get tired out. Then when he got tired they'd row out and pop him in the head with a 22. Then row back in with him and load him into a pickup.

I would've rather waited for animal control than have to clean up the mess of shooting it + damage to my home.

If you're fairly close it should.

If it were me, I'd shoot it then drag it out back and skin it. Gator is :yum:

Doubt .22 LR would penetrate his hide with enough force to kill him.

Also, their brains are the size of an apricot, so actually hitting it and disabling him would be a whole other task.

A .22lr is more than enough in the right spot. You just have to know where to hit them. Now getting close enough to them to do it is the tricky part.

I've got vids of my Great Grandfather hunting gators in LA bayous. All they used was a .22lr revolver.

Wow, color me suprised. I used to live in florida and while we never had trouble with the gators at our ski lake, I would NOT want to get close to one without knowing the weapon I had would put it out. But then again I have never shot one with a .22 so I wouldnt know.

A well placed shot between the eyes will do one in.

it takes a .40 or larger to penetrate the head of a larger alligator. 9mm and .22 sometimes works on 5 ft alligators. my credentials...
