I have a 9200 se right now, and I need an upgrade, so are the 6600 GT's any good?

Ya -- most tests show that it is a little better than the 9800 Pro.

There's a lot of people (including me) having a bitch of a time with the card; it brings new meaning to the phrase "driver hell." The latest WHQL'd drivers from Nvidia are absolute crap (71 series), but later drivers seem to be working a little better. Google "6600 GT freezing" to see what I mean about problems. When it's working I really like the card, but that's only when it works ;)

this is the exact opposite to all of my experiences... nVidia's drivers kick the shit out of ATis drivers.

I know! My 4200 was solid as a rock, same with my GF2 Ultra! But it's not just me; every other Geforce 6xxx owner I talk to says that they've got some problem with hard lockups or random reboots or whatnot. Like I said, google it if you don't believe me - there are pages upon pages dedicated to this problem.

okay... Well, I can't count teh number of 6xxx cards I've sold. Never seen a problem with em. Had to RMA a few, but not with symptoms of what you describe. Actually, I've got a 6600GT in my system, right now.

what brand cards? I deal primarily with XFX and they're stable as a rock.

I have a Leadtek 6600GT and I'm happy with it. None of these freezing problems at all.

give it a year. I tried selling leadtek cards, and at least 90% of them came back in a year. No more leadtek for me.

I've recommended the 6600GT's to friend without them having any issues, it's a great card for the price.

However I still prefer an ATI card.

It's a Leadtek 6600GT Extreme PCIe. For those of you who aren't having any problems, what Forceware versions are you using?

Heh, you've got me all wrong. Most of the problems I've read about with the 6600 series has to do with AGP cards; I haven't seen as many complaints about the PCIe version. That's it. So, what forceware drivers are you using?

Huh. I've tried both drivers, and they're both unstable. Guess it's my card, then. Time for an RMA! Thanks! (And sorry for the hijack)

i have a 6600gt from msi, overclocked and absolutly no problems at all even with the new drivers. its amazing card, beats ati's x700 in hl2. wich is funny because the ati mid range card should beat nvidia in hl2. but not here. go nvidia.

edit* also its agp rock solid and amazing. best card ive ever had, better then any ati ive tried. i go with nvidia on alot. like there approche better

Drivers are a little outdated but pefectly stable in every game i have played.
