I guess I probably alreadyknow the answer to this... But is it possible to upgrade from a 32bit to a 64bit proc without changing the mobo?

I want to build a WHS machine out of my dell desktop... All the specs beat HPs mediasmart servers except for the 64 bit AMD that hp uses

    It depends on the motherboard.

It is not possible. Theoretically, there could be a motherboard out there with two different sockets for two different types of CPUs, but in reality, there isn't -- not in your price range, anyway.

Motherboards don't cost that much. If you can afford a new CPU, you can afford a new motherboard.

okay, that makes sense... So tell me...is it worth the upgrade?

The HP mediasmart is 64bit 1.xGhz, 512mb ram

Mine would be my dell dimension 9100, 32bit intel 2.8ghz single core

Either would run WHS and a few 500gb drives
