    quoted for ignorance.

the person who bought it has way more than that much cash just sitting around, and to people like that its all about having something no one else does, regardless of price. it will be put in storage after a nice wax and buff, and 30yrs from now will be one hell of a fucking collector's item.

would i pay that for that car? helllll no, but if i had a billion dollars in the bank and a huge house and a 10car garage in malibu, then yes, yes i probly would, along with my one-of-a-kinds and a number of exotics

Still a waste, buying a car for the soul purpose of never driving it and keeping it as a collectors item is a waste. Cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed, spending a large amount on something that you will never use for it's intended purpose and you only bought to be able to say you have this rare thing is stupid and pretentious.

I think pretentious is exactly the point.

600k seems a little high though. I'd be curious to see the bidding history on it. How it jumped around and by how much the top bidder took it for.

Its buying a piece of history.. I still dont see having a car that you cant drive, but still, its no different than buying a 2 million painting.
If maintained it will only appreciate in value, could be an investment too

I wonder how much an original, all numbers matching #1 67 GT-500, 335hp would go for.

In that same vein, I wonder if this Cobra will ever appreciate to the $600k? That's a lot of coin.

Even if he keeps it in a plastic bubble for 20 years it won't be worth what he could have made by investing the money.

I was just talking to a co-worker who watched the Barrett-Jackson auction. She (that's right, she) said that it was known that the procedes of the auction would go to Mr. Shelby's charity. So, therefore, I don't think the owner really ever expects the car to appreciate to that amount. It was philanthropy.

i think its stupid to pay that much for something that everyone will be able to buy for ~$45k in a year, for the sole purpose of owning the first one sold to the public.

It's not the sole purpose. It was for charity too.
