I've got $600 to spend on one and am looking for one to serve a few different purposes, if possible. I'd shoot skeet w/ it, game bird hunting, and then maybe even some home protection. I currently use a XD40 for the home protection part, but I think a shotgun would be nice.

So do you guys have any suggestions? I was leaning towards the Remington 11-87 but wanted to see if anyone had anything better to suggest. I'm also not sure leaning more towards a semi as opposed to a pump or whatever. I just want one that is reliable, shoots well, and lasts a long time.

    Thanks in advance.

If you can find one SAIGA 12 guage would fit those purposes I still kicking myself for not getting one when i could of got it for 2 n change. Semi auto, and there should be 8 round magazines available soon for it. 11-87 is a good gun also. Currently my only shotgun is a moss 590

Those are kinda tough requirements for one gun, as you'll want a longer barrel for skeet/birds and a shorter, 18" or so, barrel for home protection.

1100's are good too. You want around a 28" for skeet and birds and usually home defense is around 18-20 so you would have to get by with the 28" at home. You wouldnt want to try and hunt or shoot skeet with an 18", its a bitch

Good points on that about the multiple purpose thing.. I think basically a bird/skeet gun would be my main purpose so I'll stick with that and the longer barrel. The money I'm using to buy this with is just a little chunk of money left by my Grandmother so I'm looking to buy a nice (nice as far as looks as well as functional) gun to keep and hand down to kids and whatnot.

Thanks for the information, I'm thinking an 1100 or 11-87 may be my best bet, is that the concensus?

Go get one of those russian o/u's at Walmart for about $450 and spend the rest on shells....or a tac light for your xd;)

You'll have fun picking up all your shells if you shoot skeet and trap with a semi-auto.

Get a Mossberg 500a Combo. I got mine from Big 5 for $199. It comes with a 28" Vent Rib Barrel for skeet/hunting and an 18.5" barrel for HD. If you have any questions, just ask me and I'll help as much as I can.

I would vote for a Benelli NOVA if you want a pump, or a Remington 1100 if you want the semi. The Big 5/ Walmart O/U would be good to if you want to go that route.

Oh what i wouldnt give to have 600 bucks to spend.

I'm saving up for a Surefire Fore-end. The 28" VR BBL is for sale, if anyone is interested, in the For Sale subforum. I'll give a good deal to anyone from Militia Crew.

Looks good. that's the first I've heard of having to modify a Mossy forend to clear a shell holder. Interesting.
    5+1? damn. I have a 19" barrel and cap is 7+1.

    With a few toys...

Is that the "Special Purpose" model? Or a 590?

not insulting the mossburg guys, as I almost bought one.

Personally i didnt like the feel of the synthetics on the Mossburg. I tried it out, and liked the wood, slightly heavier feel of my Remington 870. For a hunting gun, its definatly pretty good, the fixed choke is what prevented me from buying it. Also it is pretty damn harsh to shoot 3in mags out of it, nontheless 3.5inchers. I also like the single bead.

Like I said, it just wasnt the shotty for me, my buddy got it, and he loves it, i got the remi, and I love. Go and feel them both if thats the route you want to go.

Because its no secret Benellis are the best shotguns made. Remingtons may have sold more, but they've been around longer. I own a Benelli and out of 2500 rounds or so, NEVER had a malfunction. My buddies all have Benellis, I know how good these shotguns are.
