What's the first year a 6 speed is offered for an M3? And for future reference, is there a good site to look this stuff up on?

the E46 M3 was the first with a 6 speed, though I don't recall their first production year. 2001 sounds about right.

so 2001 model year, close enough for government work.

I bought my E36 M3 in December of 2000 and I don't remember my dealer having E46s until after that.

jeez... so many replies and nobody got it right.

e46 m3 debuted in the US market as 2001 model year. the earliest build date for the US market was 03/01 when they made a run of LSB/grey cars as demos

in model year 2001 only the manual 6sp was available. for 2002 model year SMGII debuted as an option

well i'm not gonna call you a liar but there is no data i could find on any of the popular bmw messageboards that supports what you're saying. it looks like there were a very very small number produced before 03/01 but i couldn't find any data of US market builds as far back as 11/00 and certainly not "middle of 2000". if you posted that you own an 11/00 M3, you would surprise everyone
