I want to invest in a new pistol, long range bolt rifle, and an assault rifle in the near future and i'm on a $5k budget. Taking into consideration optics for both rifles, I would like some opinions about what to get and why. Thanks

You should donate it all to the Brady Campaign.

    .460 =1k

DPMS AR with Eoteck = $1500

Rem 700p with S&B optics = the rest

I'll get an AK eventually anyways, everybody should. I was thinking more along the lines of a short stroke AR variant for now. What have we heard about the POF P415 that wasn't written by someone who got paid?

Skeptical about the no lube thing, never seen one or know anyone who has.

    Personally, in that position

1911 (Not Sure, but custom, 70 series, govt profile)
M14 (Poly/Norinco Converstion, or just get a new reciever, NIB TRW bolt, and go through SEI and their SDM package, Leupold mk4 10x40 + tactical milling rectical)
Remmy 700 5r (.308/.30-06 Surgeon Action w/ removable box mag, 5r barrel, and probably a A5 stock, Glass bedded + free float, Leupold 8.5-20x50 w/ tactical Milling rectical)

if $ allows (doubtful), a nice 16" AR (WOA SS Midlength 1-8" Wylde chambered or maybe Novesk, Low pro gasblock, DD Lite Rifle length rails, Normal pinned front sight w/ Tritium Front Sight post, LMT Enhanced bolt, Mega Lower, Billet flat top upper, Geissel Trigger, Magpul CTR Stock, LMT BUIS w/ tritium night sights)

$1588 - Springfield M1A - I know it is semi-auto, the rifle is just so sweet though

    $1995 - Wilson CQB 1911 - Beautiful semi custom 1911

$1249 - Colt 6920 - You could spend less for an AR just as nice but this is not my list

$4832 total, with FFL transfers probaby be right at $5K. Worry about optics as needed.

If he goes the M1A route spend the couple hundred extra for a Fulton MUCH better quality, or like Bigman said a built up chicom one.

See, that is why WMD is great. I don't know a lot about them, I just know I like them.

    To OP, what Squid said.

    Glock 19 ($500)
    Remington 700 P - Leupold mk4 4.5-14 ($2000)
    AR15 - Eotech ($1500)

$4000 total on guns. You'll need at least $1000 to get mags, accessories and ammo.

You should also take at least one class with each to invest in yourself.

Springfield's quality has suffered since the supply of USGI parts has started to dry up, the chinese knockoffs are, from my understanding, better than Springfield for the price, and can be better if given some attention by a good smith, Fulton and LRB arms are very very nice stuff if you want new, to me i like the chicom because i can customize it from step one to be mine

    Les Bear 1911
    Noveske AR15
    Remington 700

After this your remington 700 will still be stock with a scope however your other two will be custom already.

I have read extensive reviews from both your pistol classes on Sigforum and they seem very exciting.

As long as he stuck with a used Hi-Point 9mm for the pistol, and an SKS for the semi-auto rifle, he'd probably make budget.

I assumed the action was $700-$1k because that's about what Predators run, but fuck, they're $1300

The armalite ar-30 looks pretty tempting for $1800
    (1/2MOA out of box!)

I'm just going to do it bit by bit though, get a LH SPS varmint whenever they come out this year then start gradually replacing parts and having stuff done to it. :o
