    on the short term... maybe. In the long run, to get a decent still out of a video camera, you'd need a shitload of extra editing gear, and your subject would have to be standing still.

    depends on what camera you're buying. If you want the high iso performance, than no, you'd spend shitloads to try and out perform it.

    If you wanted to use your existing lenses, then no, unless you buy a really used xl1

    but if you just want a small "p&s" camcorder, and have no other need for the 5d, then sure
