I got the canon 28-135 3.5-5.6 USM IS as a gift, but the reviews havent been the greatest so I am reluctant to open it (damn restocking fees).

    550 to spend.

Looking for a good walkaround lense that I will be keep on the camera a majority of the time.

This if for a XT btw.

I don't know about Canon so I can't answer your 17-200 question. But I like my Tamron because it is very sharp throughout the zoom and is pretty fast @ 2.8 for indoor shooting if need be.

Thanks for everyones advice. I am taking the Canon lens back and I ordered the Tamron 28-75 for $365. off amazon. I think i might get a lens baby with the left over money

Does anyone know if it comes with a lens hood. It does not say on amazon but other vedors note it being included.
