I know some folks have had both of these lenses. Optically from pictures i have seen they are both great IQ wise. Please don;t suggest anything else because 500 is in my budget right now. I would love to indulge in the 70-200 2.8 IS but i cannot at this time.

    Pros for the f4l:
    constant f4
    L build Q
    Faster AF
    Internal zooming

    cons f4l:
    WHITE!!!!
    No IS
    lack of 300mm

    PROS 70-300 IS:
    300mm
    good image quality
    IS
    Black

    Cons
    Push pull zoom
    build quality
    variable aperture

What do you guys think, ones that have owned it.

because a big fuckin white lens is obtrusive. Screams pro. when i am not. And when i want to take my camera into some places i am not supposed to.

um, if a camera isn't allowed, it's not easy to sneak in a dSLR with a 70-200 attached

get the 70-200 f/4.0L, sharper, faster, better colors.. easy choice.

I can get away with an all black camera when shooting, but a white lens really shows for some reason. I have rented a 70-200 and i always get weird looks.

70-200 so long as you don't think you need 300mm

If you really need 300mm then 70-200 isn't going to do you much good.

Even a 70-200 with a teleconverter will yield much better pictures than the 70-300, if you absolutely need the range.

How bout picking up a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 DG?
Pick one of those up if you can stretch your budget a bit.
I've never tried the 70-300IS, but when i had the 70-200 F/4 L i didn't like it that much even though it was INTENSELY sharp and the colour was fantastic. I was retarded and bought it knowing that it wasn't good in the dark, yet the only pictures i took were indoors.

Don't get the L just because it's an L, get it cuz it's useful for you. Don't be stupid like me and get the lens only because it's an L.

    70-200

Honestly, the 300 range doesn't really do much for me. From 200-300 I can't really tell the difference much, it doesn't make much of a difference to me. Having F/4 throughout FTW

You clearly haven't seen enough pictures of my dick.

I'd take the 70200 f4 over 2.8 IS even :noes:

unless I'm shooting for 2 minutes.
