What are you guys shooting at 50 yards with your pistols?

There is a guy on another board saying this is his groupings at these distances:

Last tgt., using ammunition from AAA, 115jhp, five shot groups, offhand @ comfortable rate of fire:

    red @ 15yds, yellow @ 35yds, green @ 50yds:

Just because I can't do it doesn't mean someone else can't, but I am reluctant to believe all of these 50yd stories.

It's better than average, but nothing unreal. I suck at groups, but I know I can shoot pepper poppers at 25 yards "on the move" on the clock.

High level bullseye guys do 50 yard 10 shot groups unsupported in a 3" group. Some noob on the internet with a questionable looking target pic, I say unlikely.

  11. You can post pics, you just have to use the IMG tags.

If it was some hot shit bullseye guy the target would be different. It would be a standard round bulleye target, completely black with a 3.5" X ring. There would be 10 shots in the X-ring, the target would be pulled, then probably marked w/ distance and dated. If somebody showed up with that pic I would be more inclined to believe.

To use a man sized target with 3 groups on it somewhat center smells like bull. If he did one group as a head shot (15 yard group), then only one more group center mass it would be more believable.

Lastly it is 5 shot groups which people who read my posts irks me to no end. It can be just as much luck as anything else. A 10 shot group just about eliminates the luck factor.

Target like that, not labeled or anything, I call bull shit on it. Now if he had an actual 50m bullseye target, that would be a damn good shooter with an XD, but thats not the case so hes probably getting 50m mixed up with 50'.

On a human sized target at 50 yards, I can usually get most of my shots on the paper, but "on the paper" is about as accurate as I get at that range.
I'm also guessing he's mixing up feet and yards.

from the picture, is he actually trying to say he put one at 50yrds through the same hold as one at 35yds?

i dont see the point target shooting at 50 yards with anything other than a .22 pistol.

Depends on your criteria. If your a competition shooter, law enforcement, etc it would be good to have some 50+ yard practice. There quite possibly would be situations where you might need to make a extended range shot.

If your pistol is primarily for home defense I guess it would be rare in most situations.

Back in the north hollywood shoot out many of the coppers were at extended pistol range of 50 yards or more. Things might of ended quicker if they could make 50 yard head shots.

If a civilian were forced to flee his home due to natural disaster he might be called on to make extended distance shots to discourage threats from his family.

Just like how you should shoot for competition. You practice at %100 and shoot a match at %80.

In practice is where I try to push the envelope and shoot at %100. You may not ever need to shoot someone at 50 yards but it's nice to know you can if you had to. It would make having to make a headshot, or shot through no shoots like a lot easier.

I think a lot of it is confidence. If you practice 50+ yard shots when you had to do one you have an edge. You know your hold, know what you have to see, and know you can do it.

Even in Law Enforcement, at least with my agency, if the person is 50 or so yards out, you get the AR and hit them with that.

That was also part of my original argument.

If you bring any of this shit up over at XDtalk though, you just get a bunch of guys going "Great shooting OP, thats about what mine look like. Hibidi is just mad he can't do it"
