Are they worth it? Ive only actually used the 85 1.2 and Ill I can think of is that while the DOF is amazing, the AF is sooo slooowww (And that was on a MkII lens).

Is the 50 any faster? Ive never used it.

I've always heard that if you plan on using it for sports the 85 1.8 is a must have.

Yeah I also considered that. I used a friends and the AF on the 1.8 is light years faster than the 1.2... Price tag is also light years lower ha!

    .

If you actually intend to use these lenses for sports, go with one of the above, or 135mm f/2.0 USM

Real professional sports photographers use what consistantly works -- which is not the same as the most expensive...

I use the 85 1.2 II for sports just fine. Lifesaver in dark volleyball gymnasiums when ever 1.8 doesn't get you enough shutterspeed.

    none yo'

How about the 50mm 1.4? At least I think Canon has one.
I have the Nikon 85 f1.4 for portraits but I'm really thinking of getting a 40D + 50 1.2 as well. :big grin:

    Canon makes a 50 1.4 but not an 85 1.4. Its either 85 1.8 or 85 1.2.
