School me on these...I think I want to sell off my CMMG 16" upper and go with a 5.45 upper instead...Will my ceiner .22 kit work? Does anywhere still have 5.45 uppers around $600?
How much could I sell my 5.56 upper and 500 rounds of ammo for? I'd like to break evenish if possible.
    Thanks!
(I posted this on Calguns too)

AIM has them for $500, IIRC but they're all out (surprisingly). Bud's might carry the uppers..not 100% sure on that.

$500 eh? That's hard to pass up. I can probably sell my 5.56 upper for around there.
Everywhere I'm seeing them is all out also. I'll have to contact them and see what the wait is like.

For the price I'd just get an AK then you dont have to worry about shooting corrosive ammo in it.

    Might want to double-check... I can't remember if it was $499 or $599... :o

Well, I don't have the cash to buy another rifle, just bought a CETME. So I just want to get rid of the 5.56 upper and go with 5.45 instead, for as little out of pocket cost as possible.

$569, just checked. I'll get them a call about lead time.

You might be able to buy an unconverted WASR-2 for quite a bit lower than the upper. :dunno:

The primers. I forgot to clean my AK for a couple days after shooting and the inside of my gas tube had a rusty film inside it. I imagine the gas block did, too but w/e. Just spray it down with windex when you finish shooting and clean it out as soon as you can and it's really not that big of a deal.

When fired the primers leave a corrosive salt residue on the metal, This salt attracts moisture-humidity. Metal+wet air=rust.

Spraying the bolt and barrel down with Windex is really only a temporary fix until it can be cleaned throughly. The best method is HOT damn near boiling water and dish soap poured down the barrel, and all over the bolt/any metal that comes into contact with powder residue. And then those same parts with a cleaner that displaces water (CLP is the best, or Hoppes).

Like gooch said, it's just a temporary fix until you can get it cleaned and it works pretty good IMO. With an AR I would just spray it down the gas tube until it starts dripping out the barrel, and do the same squirting it down the barrel, Coat up the BC and the bolt and you should be good to go until you can get it cleaned.

I love shooting my milsurps, but if I bring 3 rifles to range I can pretty much guarantee a good 2-3 hour cleaning session when I get home.

I don't mind cleaning...damn 1,080 rounds for $129 is hard to pass up. I'm going to find out how long AIM's back order on the upper is.

That's why I want one so bad... 1000 rounds for $340 is not very practical. :hsd:

Anyone have experience with using 5.56 mags and 5.45 ammo? Does it work well? Will it tweak out the feed lips?

5.56 will work, but can only hold IIRC 20 rounds

From what I've gathered on arfcom, the 5.56 mags will work but are a PITA. Definitely worth the extra coin to pick up dedicated 5.45 mags.

The cost of the upper is recouped in less than 2000rds of 5.45 IIRC. :hsd:

I think 30rd mags will only hold 27 rounds max of 5.45.

The problem is the rounds tipping once they get further down the magazine.

I guess I'll just sell my 5.56 upper, ammo, and ceiner kit and get the 5.45 upper instead...That will cover the costs of the upper easy. But I can't get through to AIM to find out when they will be in.
