Anyone know of a simple way to get this to work? I have my mac hooked to a receiver, and I want to passthrough the Dolby Digital / DTS signal over SPDIF. I can do this with VLC, but VLC sucks balls for DVDs.

It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, once you plug in your SPDIF cable to the Mac and get a lock on your receiver, you need to select Digital Out in the Sound Preferences panel. That way the default output is Digital for apps like Front Row.

I'm pretty sure that's how it works, but I don't have the cables here to check.

digitial sound works, but only in two channels. When I watch a DVD it doesn't switch to pass-through and remains in 2 channels :(

I'm assuming you are selecting 5.1 in the DVD's menu?

Also check your settings in DVD Player as I think Front Row shares those same settings.

Yes. And DVD Player has no options for it.

Macbook Pro. Although any mac will be the same. They come this way AFAIK, and I've been told it is possible to fix somehow.
