I have this 4GB SDHC card that Windows will only read as 0MB and can't read to format it. I also tried disk management and it shows no unpartitioned space either.

I tried right clicking and formatting but Windows says it can't read it. Also my camera won't format it either.

    Help? :x:

    Well.

I was using it on my Eee PC while attempting to install EeeUbuntu and I did some weird formatting shit to it.

    That's the full story.

I guess its still dead though.

Try formatting it in Ubuntu then. see if it work's there. also make sure its not phsically locked to read only.

It may be the HC part that is screwing things up. I bought a SDHC card that works fine in the Blackberry, but I cannot read it in Windows unless I use the mini-standard adapter PLUS the USB dongle as well.

Took me a few days to get round to it, but I'm acutally using this SD card right now on my Eee PC with Ubuntu.

So it works here, I just need a way to format it for windows.

Would putting it in my digital camera, connecting to my PC and then popping in my Windows disk and formatting it in the BIOS work?

To install it on the SD with the live CD, I can actually tell it to format the SD card back to fat 32 for Windows. But there is no way to just format that, and not the internal disk. And to format the internal disk requires me to format the disk like I have formatted the SD, so I don't want to screw that up also.

Windows doesn't seem to know how to behave around different drive formats.

I had a similar issue with a hard drive after it was formatted for Mac.

Windows wouldn't use it, no how, no way. Dban wouldn't wipe it for me to start over.

It took killdisc to overwrite it with zeros, to be able to use it again.

I had it suggested to try partition magic, to do a mbr repair, but I didn't try that.

Should I use kill disk then?

I used the partition software in Windows and got nothing either.

If it will work on the drive then yeah, I would.

Oh man this sucks. Tells me the drive is not ready so I can't do anything with it :wtc:

Should I be doing this from within Windows?

If it works in ubuntu maybe you can format it for windows there. You probably have to have it formatted to fat32 for windows to recognize it. Also it might never work in windows if the cardreader you are using doesn't support sdhc

If you're trying to use killdisk, you want to make a bootable disc with it.

^ just what i was thinking. format in ubuntu fat32.

or, pop it in the digital camera, and see if the camera has an option to format it. obviously, make sure you have nothing important on it before you do the format.

For the last paragraph, you mean in Ubuntu you can't format the SD card without formatting your internal hard drive too? I'm not too clear on what you said, is that what you mean?

Yep that's what I mean. The only way I can see in Ubuntu to do it is when installing the OS from the live CD.

I could format the internal disc and restore the standard linux distro, but I'm afraid it might screw that up. And also my Eee PC is only a 2GB, I don't think it would fully install it and then wouldn't get as far as formatting the SD.

I guess I just need a way to format in Unbuntu, but I see no option to.

And my camera won't turn on when the SD is in. It tells me its damaged :wtc:
    But it definately works.

If it sees the SD card at all, it will be able to erase it.

    Worth a shot, imo.

Oh, and to make the disc bootable, you can't beat MagicISO.
