I have been looking online, I havent checked Walmart but where can I get some .45LC ammo in boxes and even in bulk.
and is there a conversion to shoot .45acp ammo out of it?

Cabelas sells in bulk (I think its lead bulleted ammo though). You cant shoot .45ACP out of it, the cases arent that similar, though maybe you could get a different cylinder.

45 ACP is going to require moon clips or a new/modified cylinder. Moonclips would require having the cylinder machined if it does not accept them stock.

For some reason rimless cartridges don't like to stay put in the charge holes ;) Maybe 45 Auto Rim would work?

If you do find a way, you'll need to be sure to keep the charge holes clean. Like 38 spc in a 357 mag, the shorter round will tend to leave some buildup in the front of charge holes. Not a big deal but it can be a problem if you don't clean it before switching back to the 45LC.

Your best bet is to find a revolver forum and ask there. They can probably also ID the model number of your mystery hand-cannon.

:werd: i ask where to buy ammo and I am dumb? :dunno:

I think it was moon clips that I was looking at earlier that allowed it. I think from pricing I dont think .45acp is that much cheaper than I can make an $80 clip cost effective. Worst case the ammo is $13 for 50rds which is not bad and very doable.. I still have my .40 which is $16 for 100rds if I want to shoot more, I will probably do maybe 150rds when i go or something, but its cool, I love the big gun :big grin:

Check with the revolver boards about the moon clips. Like I said, you may need to have the cylinder machined by a gunsmith to allow the clips (and rounds) to seat properly. For $80 though, that sounds like it includes the Cylinder. Moon clips are really just cheap stamped metal. They are usually a few bucks for a pack of like 5.

As for where to buy, check with Wal-Mart. What they carry varies from store to store. For handguns, they really only carry practice ammo. I've never seen 45LC at my local one, but their selection is small, even for wal-mart. 45LC isn't exactly a common round though. If they don't have it, ask the sporting goods person if they can get it.

The Walamarts around here carry practice ammo, target, self protection and hunting rounds, I have never really looked for a .45lc.

From what you said I might check out moon clips, maybe ask the guys at the local range about them if they will work.

I just remembered that we have a Bass Pro Shops right by here.. and my friend has a .454 Casull and I remember shooting .45LC's out of it I will ask him.

now if the $80 does include the cylnder how hard is that to change out (I will have to check the site I marked at home)?

Taking out a cylinder is horribly easy, I'm suprised you havent taken yours out yet.

I got the gun on Thursday and cleaned it up, I havent even gotten to shoot it yet, I found that page again and they said the $80 is to machine your cylinder to fit a moon clip.. which I think I will just stick with the .45lc and ask around for a good source of ammo... as I said before, even my range has it for around $25 for 100rds...

Walmart doenst carry.. so I am still looking for a store that does. I probably need to call Bass Pro Shops..
The range carries them but was out last time I went :hs:
I am thinking of finding another cylinder and getting it machined to accept a moonclip for .45acp

From what I've heard moonclips are nothing but a pain in the ass, hence why the .45 AR was created :o

it seems to be a pretty simple concept, the clip becomes the ridge the 45lc has that the ACP doesnt.. but I dont know how well they work. It wont be an issue when I can find a steady stream of ammo

Because it looked cool... They have ammo at the range that was $13 for 50rds, I have found some places online to buy in bulk.
It will be cool, I know I can find it I just got to look.

I understand the concept, but the general consensus seems to be that they're nothing but a hassle.

I am still considering it.. I am just curious what makes them a hassel, it just seems to hold the bullet in place.. do you have any more info why they are a hassel?

The other downside with a moonclip is machine the cylinder which I am sure would void any type of warrenty that Taurus would have on this gun.. and it would run like $80 to have it machined.
