so take away the live view, 6.5fps, ability to go to higher ISO and 1/8000 vs 1/4000 shutter speed, 3 inch monitor and just take both cameras, and take a picture of the same thing with the same lens in teh same enviroment, will the images be identical since they both use DIGIC3 and same sensor? And is the 40D higher ISO usable past where the XTi's is?

I am looking to move up maybe and minus the 6.5 fps, there reaslly is nothing significant that I want other than IQ

DIGIC3, and the feel. Go to your local camera shop and hold them. The XTi is a nice light camera, but the 40D has a sturdy magnesium body rather than a plastic body.

also, the XTi is an older model. Check out the XSi if you're looking to get better than the XTi but cheaper than the 40D. The XSi has the DIGIC3

i switched from an XTI to the 40D, initially I didn't notice much difference in IQ, but when i started to shoot in RAW, there was much more data that was available in the 40D files as oppose to the XTI as I was able to save bad shots with ease. I don't shoot in Jpegs, but i'm assuming this would translate into much better tones and highlights with the newer processor in the 40D.

The ISO noise is definitely an improvement, I think the 40D is a whole stop and half ahead of the XTi.

The AF is a HUGE plus in the 40D.

Go hold one. It's fits in my hand SO much better than the XT/XTi

After having used a Rebel series and an "x0D" series camera...there is no comparison.
