50D being the latest cam obviously have more features but the 40D apparently performs better than 50D in high ISO.

I'm playing with the thought of upgrading but I don't know which one I would chose :hs:

The 50D has more megapixelz and lens microadjustment. Not sure if there are any other "must have" features over a 40D though. Other than ISO 6400 and 12,800 which are useless from what I hear.

40d. not worth the extra money for the 50 at this point if money is a concern.

The 50D is better because of the screen and micro adjust and the ISO performance is fine. There really is no contest except for price.

The 50D is definitely a nicer camera. The screen, micro-adjust, and more megapixels are all upgrades.

But used/mint 40D's go for just over $600. New 50D's (not many used available) are selling for over $1100. I personally don't think the 50D is $500 nicer than the 40D, I'd rather spend that money on glass.

The 40D outperforms the 50D in lower lighting. The 50D has a nice high resolution screen, but not for as much as it costs more than a 40D. I had no idea 40D's went for about $600, though. I paid $900 for mine in October with <4k actuations.

Yeah, I got mine right before the 50D came out. I should have just waited. :hs: But I'm extremely happy with it. I can't complain

That's not a great argument. You can get a 30D for $300+ less than a 40D and the 30D had better ISO performance than the 40D, so IMO the 40D isn't worth that much more.

You can go on like that for days.

IMO, which I doubt anyone cares about, I'd either buy a 30D or a 5D. The 40D isn't worth 300 more than the 40D and the 50D definitely isn't worth as much as a 5D.

If money is not a biggie get the 50 if you are on a tight budget then obviously the 40D.

    I miss my 40D.

well. the 40d has a self cleaning sensor, live view, better screen, and a more reliable shutter. those things are worth the $300 over the 30d to me.

the only real benefit of the 50d is the screen. but in the end, the screen isnt that important. the megapixels are irrelevant to me. that was the source of my argument.

Canon did a pretty shit job with their "update" if the majority of ppl would still chose the previous model (40D).

Nah, it's just that people with 40D's try to pick the 50D apart to feel better about themselves. The 50D is clearly a better camera.

Well, DPREVIEW.com is pretty objective in their reviews and this is what they wrote.

    Some of the cons.

Seriously, if you can, just get a used 5D.
