    10-22 3.5-4.5
    24-70 L 2.8
    50mm 1.8
    70-200 L f4 IS
    17-85 IS

10-22 is on my camera most of the time, but the 24-70 is easily my favorite

yes and no. for the price i paid, the 4.0 is holding up just fine for me.

i haven't had ANY problems shooting with the 4.0 outside on a sunny day...that is usually where i take pics with this lens.

the 50 1.8 is great for indoors when i don't want to use a flash.

i think the 10-22 is going to be my next purchase...

however, at 10mm, do you get a fish eye effect on the 40d body?

Yes, IS is an option for the F4

    Rough estimate

    F4 $600
    F4 IS $1100
    F2.8 $1100
    F2.8 IS $1600

    70-200 4
    70-200 2.8 IS

no big deal either way, i got the lens i wanted within my budget, so i dont regret anything.

barrel distortion is when you see the inside of the lens in the corners of the images?

    10-22
    17-50
    85L II
    135L
    100-300 f4

I like all of the lenses for different purposes, I guess I like the 85L the most. I really want a 35L and a 300 or 400 2.8, but I can't justify the current cost of any of them.

no, that's vignetting...barrel distortion is what makes it look all stretched out at the edges

    17-55 IS , 30 1.4

i'd say the 17-55 is the best all around....the 30 1.4 has focus issues at times, especially when using the flash. Other than that it is sharp as hell and works well in low light.

Since I'm just re-starting with DSLR going from Film SLR and none of the lenses were interchangeable from the minolta to the canon

I only have the 28-135 IS Kit lens

    And the 50mm 1.8

and a 10-22 on order

    I currently have:
    Sigma 17-70
    Tokina 12-24
    Canon 85 1.8

17-70 I use most often. If I could afford it, I would use a 24-70L all the time. The 85 is a nice piece of glass too.

Oh, and I use my 28-135 and 10-22 a lot, the same amount probably. I'm poor, so no L glass for me.

    Canon 10-22
    Canon 70-200L f/4
    Canon 50 1.8
    Sigma 17-70

I LOVE the 10-22. It's almost always mounted on my 40D. It's a great walk around lens.
