For those who own or have owned both I'd like to know which one you'd prefer based on IQ and ISO Noise. Does the new technology in the 40D really make up for the FF on the 5D?

I don't even own a canon and I'd tell you 5D just because of the FF sensor. :o

But does FF equals automatic superiority? What of other things like AF, ISO and what not. Maybe i truly don't understand the ability of FF, but isn't there more to a camera than just the size of the sensor?

The 5d just has better image quality in general than the 40d.

the 5d does just fine in high iso, the drawbacks other than price would be:
    buffer
    FPS
    AF speed

so if you're trying for sports, that would be a bad idea, but if you aren't a spray and pray shooter and have the cash, I'd grab a used one, no sense in paying MSRP with a new version coming out at some point soon.

the 5D is going to be replaced any day now. don't buy one now. when its successor comes out, you can either get that, or the 5D will probably be deeply discounted so you could save a bundle.

for me, the 40D is great. really fast shutter, large buffer, and increased lens selection are pretty much what sold me.

Any idea how much the new version going to run? If its more mid 3k, its unlikely I'll be spending that much cash.

thats totally the opposite way i think of it. If i was shooting for profit, I would go with the lowest cost gear that could do the job well. I love full frame, I think it makes shooting more enjoyable

Allright so im down to this.

    I get the

    Option #1
5D KIT that comes with the 24-105IS L

    Option #2
    40D
    17-55 EFS IS or 24-70L
    10-22 or a Prime lens around $5-600

    Which seems more useful?

I do a bit of landscape, flowers etc and my niece running around the house.

Buy option 1 for cheap. Sell / trade 24-105 for 24-70. Profit?

One thing I'm envious of with Canon users. If Nikon users want FF, we gotta drop $5k on that shit, son. :sad2:

  24. I would imagine that the 5D w/ the 24-105IS L would be VERY nice. 24mm on a Full Frame should almost be wide on a full frame, as compared to a 1.6x (40D)

What i'd like to know is what makes the 5D a better camera than the 40D aside from the FF point? Maybe i need to shoot with an FF to see the difference?
