First 2 are sweet
I like 2 and 3.
4 - take off the necklace
1 - straighten the gun and or remove teh white dot to the guns left upper side. Draws attention away. I immediately look at that thing. But I enjoy the concept of the shot
First 2 FTW. How did you light these?
4 is my least favorite of the group. Might get cut if I get enough in my future shoots to cut it out. Or if I can reshoot the girl. I agree the necklace has to go.
1 I see what you're saying, I'll see what I can do. I'm not sure how much the bright catchlight bothers me. I think I actually might like it... The gun could be a little straighter though...
lighting: 1st shot had a shoot through umbrella really high and camera right, facing down on him, and a bare flash camera left pointing at him and just barely behind him.
2nd shot had a shoot through low camera left and almost right in front of him, and a snooted direct flash on the other side of the blinds. The blinds are clamped to a couple of light stands...
Nikon CLS system with manual control.
1 and 2 are great. These are exactly whatI had in my head when you first started this series. WEll done.
Wow, love #2. Great job!
damn the first 2 are sweet.... I like 2 alot.
keep it up
the first 2 are great, the third one is good. i agree that the catch light is a little too bright in the first one, and it would've been nice for the gun to be straight up and down, but its still a great shot.
i really like number 1, but should have used a revolver.
I as well kind of like the catch light in his eye.
I have a TON more shooting to do in the next couple weeks....
Anyone have any shots they'd like to see? I have guys, girls and couples lined up for shots, but am starting to run a bit thin on ideas....
I'd like to see you play with the light some more. Something like the 2nd one.
The others look like they're lit just to fill the subject. I want the light to draw the shapes of the subject and make look at the whole picture to understand the subject.
Ever see Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow?
Is this for anything in particular or just a personal project?
thanks for the suggestions! I actually just watched sky captain to get some ideas... crazy!
I think i'm going to shoot something *very* similar to the shot of Polly leaning against the brick wall when the robots are walking by... I think it's about 10 minutes into the movie, it's one hard light going across her face and lighting the brick wall as well..
In all honestly, the difficulty I'm having with playing with the light involves the sets and backgrounds.... I can get one or two subjects to properly fill the character I want, but getting an entire room or a bunch of furniture to fit as well has been a pretty daunting task...
For the shot with the blinds, I would have LOVED to have a desk and a table lamp behind him in that shot, but I have NO CLUE where to find a 50's style desk, lamp and accessories...
So I've stuck to lighting the subject and their prop in a pool of black...
I mean imagine the 2nd pic you posted without the airplane in the background... It'd would actually be a pretty weak photograph...
First one on all black would be killer though... Might have to look around for some goggles!
I'm taking a pretty advanced studio lighting/techniques class at the college I work at. But at this point, i'm having so much fun with it that I think i'm gonna keep going even after the class...
To be perfectly honest, i've actually NEVER shot people before this. I used to HATE shooting people. Go back and look at what i've posted. 90% of it has been my pets or landscapes...
Nice, needs more noise
I like number 1, although I think I would like it more if his brow was furrowed and/or lips were snarled..like he was angry...maybe?
I think it would give it more emotion than just a dude holding a gun.
you canon guys never give that noise shit a rest, do you?
FWIW, the noise was added via Nik Color film effects, and I'm using Portra 400NC to create the noise.
So the noise is absolutely intentional, and I actually have considered going up to an 800 speed film....
It looks freaking awesome in print...
don't mind him, they look great.. .specially the first and second one.
I really like the first two. The third one is meh. I really dislike the last one for some reason.
agreed, i actually didn't like the last one at all. those eyes in 2 kind scare me (they're too blown out because of the light and look creepy, eep!)
