This made me think of that thread that was floating around here a month or two ago on people picking up too quickly.

We got a GySgt in our battalion who just re-enlisted for the first time and is now an E7.
Apparently he came off MSG Duty as hot shit, and lat moved into our field.

Meritorious promo boards for most of them. :eek4:

    How does this happen?

TIG requirements aren't a factor on meritorious boards.

It doesn't matter if he is the reincarnation of Chesty, the only way you make Gunny in 4.5 years is by.....

That's Nucking Futs! My old Gunny (now a MSgt) had picked up E-7 at 9 yrs I think. Now in the air guard, my Chief Master Sgt (E-9) is the most senior enlisted guy (TIG) in the Air Force (including Active,Reserve, & Guard). He apperantly got promoted to Chief Master Sergeant sometime in 1985. So many people are waiting for him to retire(die) so they can take his spot.

I dunno if i could listen to him as a gunny since he has no experience of how to run shit since he was on MSG duty for 3 years.

:bsflag: Marine Corps?! Give me his last name.. I'll look it up and see if this shit is true. All I need is a last name, so don't give me the "confidential" bullshit.

Making 7 in 7 is possible in the Army - I've seen a 7.5 year gunny when I worked joint service, but 4.5.... unless things have DRASTICALLY changed in the last 2.5 years since I've left... I'm going to have say you have been lied to sir.

:werd: I really do not pay attention to that shit, because when it comes down to actually be a "Marine" and go in combat, half of these guys are idiots.

Is true. I already know the rank, so a last name should give me a short list of names.. if it's not common, even better. Then I can just see how quickly he picked up in the system and see if this is true. I find it hard to believe a GySgt in 4.5 years. This guy's roadtrack is set for SgtMaj of the Marine Corps if he's that shit hot! I refuse to believe that there are senior Marines out there who would just hand out such a high rank to someone with so little experience in the Marine Corps.. regardless of your knowledge and appearance.

not in the air force. even if you make btz and make staff the first time you'd test for tech at 5 years, sew on in your sixth and wouldn't test until eight. if you were unfortunate enough to make it, you'd sew on your nineth year. please, do explain how I'm wrong and 24 months is no longer a requirement, etc.
