I only have like 4 rounds of 00 busk so I wanted more HD ammo. I went to wal-mart and of course they had no buck shot. They did however have #4 turkey loads so I picked those up. #4 3" turkey shot is ok for HD right? It would be used with a mossberg 500.

i'd put those after the 4 rounds of 00 buck you have, then go buy more buck.

  3. I wouldn't want to get shot with it, but like Hoss said, put it after the 00 buck you have.

better than nothing; but, yah you shouldn't be too worried about the turkey-sized home intruders

Try another sporting goods place, 00 buck shouldn't be hard to find even with the ammo shortage.

I keep my shotgun loaded with exactly that. 3" magnum #4 shot. :dunno:

Of course I've never shot anybody with it, so I don't know how well it will work... I'll let you know when I have empirical evidence. :noes:

I know its not a very good indicator, but for what it's worth, those turkey shells fuck up a target worse than any other shell I've ever shot.

i can't imagine too many intruders taking a close range shot from that turkey load would continue as a threat.

isn't that load about 40 ish pellets? in a tight pattern from close range that's gonna tear the shit out of anyone who is unfortunate enough to be standing there.

i'd feel pretty comfy with it but would prefer the buck shot of course

I've actually read recommendations of using #3 or #4 for HD so that it doesn't penetrate walls as much as 00. Of course everyone has theories on the merits of that.

This load was Remington 2 3/4", #4 Buck, 27 pellets.

This is the damage to the sheetrock.

It penetrated 6 sheets and bounced off the 7th sheet.

Notice how the wall "collapsed" under the shot.

but yes its true other loads will penetrate more.

    no slugs no care :o

to answer the question, i wouldn't use it. do you have family in your home?

my personal experience and opinion dictates that the least i'd use is 00BK with slugs in the sidesaddle. the less projectiles you have to worry about the better because 9 times out of 10, within fighting distance your shot is going to have the same spread as a slug within an inch or two.
