competed in GI for the first time ever.
also a first for competing at the blue belt level.
6minute rounds are a long time.
competing GI bjj in a cage is :ugh2:
and i also dont usually compete at 155 either (typically i just drop the weight to compete at 145).

so im happy with the result of taking 3rd place. :hs:

lost this match on points (got passed to side control and also gave up one hook on my back) this opponent ended up placing 2nd.
in the missing first minute, i got taken down by single leg into full guard, then threw up a very threatening triangle and when the ref moved us away from the cage, my opponent snuck his elbow back inside my guard. i didnt complain about it, but i should have. :o

this match went 0-0 after 6 minutes and we went to a sudden death 1 miunute OT.

here's the 1minute OT. i fail on a trip attempt, pull off an x-guard sweep and stall for victory. it was getting really late in the day and i just wanted to go home at this point but i decided to test myself to perform while tired in a 'pressure' situation.

3rd place match. saw this guy at a nogi tourney last year and felt pretty confident against him. he pulled off a single leg/inside trip on me and then failed to defend the triangle while in my guard.

feedback, praise, critique, armchair warrior assessment welcome. :wiggle:

you should have actually stood up when you did the x-guard sweep too. if the dude was a little more savvy he woulda triangled you there ;)

yeah i was trying to avoid that by smashing his butterfly hook. and also contemplating whether to stall and just maintain the top position or to try to pass to side around his guard.

I'm gonna be 27 next month and more pathetic :wtc: Also moving in with the GF, but that could also lead to more epic failure :bowrofl:

Edit: OH right yeah sick triangle, you put in the work and took home 3rd place championship!

    Nice work.
Matches in the cage are definitely weird.

Wow, I always thought x guard was one of those fancy things that don't work. I'm gonna ask coach about it next class.

At least I wasn't wrong about butterfly guard. Look at how easy it was smashed.
