i just got a 3M clear bra installed on my new 06 rx330 and they guy gave me some plexus spray to use to clean it

he also said to not use soap on it, but this is unavoidable at the local car wash i use only in the winter time.

are there any tips/tricks about caring for this?

    thanks

That's weird of him to say.

I've had a 3m clear bra for 2 1/2 years have used all kinds of car wash soaps on it.

It even has survived the harsh tunnel washs my dad insists on using as a "favor" to me after he borows my car.

Any mild polish and wax or sealant is fine to use over a clear bra. Strong polishes may leave a haze. You can wash them like the rest of your car. I've never heard of the 'no soap' requirement.

Ive only ever heard some installers say "no washing for a couple days untill teh adhesive sets". Maybe thats what he meant, but couldent articulate it? :dunno:

I just got the front end of my M3 resprayed after a little accident I got into and I'm thinking of getting one put on before I bring her out of storage.

Are they worth it? ScottWax, I know you are a big detailer, and I use some of the same products and whatnot as you, so your input would be very helpful.

Thanks guys. I have an E36 Cosmos M3.

Yes, avoid washing or wetting for 48-72 hrs. As for polishing them, i avoid that aspect altogether. I hate having to clean around the edges, even after other detailers! I can think of nothing worse then residual wax/polish around clear bras, on a Porsche.....
Waxing is recommended however, try to avoid products with a hi solvent or other petro content.

Just like you normally wax! I second Scotts opinion. And there very "un-attractive", a worthy investment when installed correctly....

it covers the entire front bumper of my rx330 and about 12 inches of the hood

the hood is the only place you can see a line and you really have to be looking for it to see it

i also have the side mirrors and headlights covered, its great

You just have to be carefull not to get wax on the edge of the bra.

i've put my clear bra through hell. i've used the liquid bug and tar remover on it and it's still in great shape. it's almost 6 years old though so some edges are starting to come up on it : \

Clay it if it feels gritty. When I detail cars with clear bras, I like to use Optimum Opti-Seal because it doesn't leave any residue along the edge of the bra.

it's just clear urethane. you can treat it anyway you want for the most part. i do second the no heavy polishing thing. I've been playing with some of it on my explorer (oh btw, I work at a tint shop now. went thru training 2 wks ago) and put it on my headlights, under my door handles, under the gas door and on the door edges. prolly gonna be doing my grille and bumper next week or two.
