    had some problems with the fire department practice physical fitness test last night. they said i should do 30 minutes of cardio, 5-6 days a week, for the next 3 weeks. that'll keep me from getting winded.

    i had that saliva-flowing near nausea thing going on last night after doing the stairclimber, saw carry, hose pull, and the two ladder tests.

    so... yea. 30 minutes on the treadmill ftw.

    i'm new at this :mamoru:

    i think incline was 2? or maybe .2

    speed was from 3-5. started with 3, finished at 5. i could have done more, maybe try starting at 5 tomorrow. today was my first day doing 30 minutes.

    If you are looking to build cardiovascular endurance you should do it at a higher intensity/heart rate. Unless 5mph is a high level of intensity for you. When I am trying to build cardiovascular endurance I would run a flat surface for 25-30 minutes at maybe 6mph or higher (depending on your level of fitness). Then maybe once or twice a week run hills (or run some incline on the treadmill but do incline for 1/4 a mile and flat for 1/2 a mile while keeping a similar speed almost as if you were interval training).

    [if you weigh more than 200lbs and can run 9mph consistently for 25 minutes or more you can usually break cheaper treadmills in 3 months or less...:mamoru: ]

    When I use the treadmill, I'm at 4.5 speed. Every minute I raise the incline, the next minute go back to zero. So by the 9th minute I'm at 9 incline....it surely keeps my heart pumping! And it's a great work out for the back of your legs and butt.

    today's settings:

    weight = 220lbs
    speed = 4.5
    time = 30 minutes
    incline = 2.0 (though i think i might have hit enter too soon and it was only 0.2 :wtc:)

    final = 440 calories, 2.5 miles, 36 minutes (i increased the cooldown time so i could get even 2.5)

    Were you holding on or not?

    When I had it at 15 incline I was holding the entire time.

    Since I'm not dieting strictly I've been trying some interval type though hardly high intensity. At 7.5 incline highest I go is 8-8.5 mph and then 4 mph for rest in the first cycle. The 'sprint' is 2 min 30 sec and rest is like 7:30 or 10 min even. Gradually cutting time down though.

    My cardio sucks. What you get for being afraidd of catabolism.
    A few years ago I built up to 3 miles in under 20 min. On a treadmill though.

    Noticing my knees are bothering me already so might not push it.
