It'll be another movie I have to go see with my friends since my gf won't go. At least she's willing to go see Shooter with me, though.

yeah, the power lines are there b/c its right off the nat'l highway. you literally just park in front of that place like a rest stop.

if you're going to greece and you want to stop there, its a good 3hrs outside of athens. you need to get on attiki odos towards lamia.

unfortunately, there's not much to do in lamia. since you said a few months, try to get the dates around WRC rally acropolis, the service stage is based in lamia with all of the special stages in the neighbouring areas.

otherwise, if you're really intent on going to see thermopylae, i'd say go in the winter. once through lamia, fork left towards karpenisi. about another 90 minutes drive, but a fun drive of winding mountain roads. karpenisi is good for skiing.

I'm going to be in Germany for a study abroad semester this summer. I really want to get down to Greece(I think Greece is sweet...), so I'm hoping I can drag at least one more person to go with me. :x:

Is Lamia near or on the way to any bigger cities that people tend to visit? That would make it easier for me to visit...

unless you're going to thessaloniki, no. thessaloniki is way the fuck out of the way, as well. if you're going to drive that far north, might was well head into albania or macedonia and get yourself an AK.

since you said germany, there are a few airlines that run shuttle planes to the islands of greece. tyrolean, an austrialian airline, used to shuttle to the island of paros, where i used to spend my summers. they shut the paros airport down but mykonos and rhodes are still open.

lamia has an airport, but its a greek run nato base.

its not. olympia is in the pelleponese, on the east side of patras and almost due south.

you need to be on the mainland and go north to go to lamia.

edit: unless you're driving by car, from the north of greece. all the directions i'm giving are from athens, i presumed you'd be flying. bad idea cutting through albania. if you're in germany, go through austria and into italy. take a ferry from ancona or bari to patras.

Reason I said that was because it looks like it's on the way if you're going by rail(which I will probably be doing)...

    no biggie.

i'd say just find a friend or two and rent a car and drive to italy and take a ferry to greece and back over. split the costs, see a lot more sights, have a lot more freedom. or, get a rental from a big company and see if you can leave the car in greece and fly back. more time on the road one way w/o getting raped on round trip milage charges.

or, do coach busses from germany to italy, inter-country coach to ancona or bari (don't go brindisi, the more south in italy you go the more liable you are to be robbed.) and take a ferry from there to patras (shorter) or pireaus (longer b/c you have to go around greece to the other side. benefit of going to pireaus is you're right next to athens. benefit of going to patras is cheaper hotels and coach busses there that will do day trips to delphi and olympia.

not quite sure, check some of the major rental companies' international sites.

before you leave town go to AAA and get an int'l driving permit, though. that'll help you w/ a lot of hassle if you get pulled over or even if you're renting.

I don't think it'll be that great. I've lost faith in all recent movies (excluding Snake on a Plane, which was amazing), and although the previews look great, I just don't think it'll turn out to actually be that good.

At least ConAir and The Rock were decent.

Yeah they were. I can see her point though, she doesn't like him because it seems like his characters are always the same, no matter what movie he's in.
