[If this is true, and I think it is, I'd like some reputable proof in the form if links/articles, etc.]

I'm trying to get my friend to understand this, but he won't believe me until I show him some proof.. basically that there is no reason to eat 6 300 calories meals instead of 3 600 calories meals.

    Anyone?

If I eat 3 meals a day and stuff myself to the point where I feel like I am burping up food, feel sick, bloated and tired I'll lose weight. If I eat 5 to 6 smaller meals with a protein shake after 4 of them it helps me hold my weight.

It depends on the person. Majority may fall under one classification but everyone doesn’t.

As far as I know, the effects of eating smaller meals are tiny when it comes to changing/speeding up metabolism. And that's what I want to see in article form.. :)

Maybe my body has changed in the past 6 months but this is what I would eat to hold my weight or gain about a pound every 2 months.

    Breakfast
    4 eggs
    8 ounces of meat
    1/2 cup oatmeal
    milk
    protein shake (50g)

    Snack
    PJ sandwhich
    banana
    milk
    50g protein shake

    Lunch
Whatever....usally 1/4 to 1/2 a chicken or that much meat and I just load up on carbs like potatos, beans or rice.

    Snack
    PJ sandwhich
    banana
    milk
    50g protein shake

    Supper
Usally something like two cans of tuna, or half a chicken, or pork chops or hamburg with some kind of carbs whether it be rice, beans, pasta or oatmeal.

    Snack
    4 eggs
    50g shake

I would do that to gain a pound every other month and if I skipped one day or had a bad weekend it wasted 2 weeks of eating right. If my metabolism had a face I would punch it. I also have protein after working out.

the difference is minimal at best

as for the orginal topic, in the end it just comes down to personal preference. there really isn't much physiological differences between the two.

I am a person who trusts for the most part what he can see/touch so I tried both ways myself. The stomach pains of not eating every so often alone were aggrivaiting.

typically you get cravings after your insulin crashes after eating high GI goods. Low GI foods keep insulin levels more consistent over a longer period of time.

I crash if I eat big meals and then I don't perform in the gym. I can feel a clear difference in my performance when I'm continuously feeding, plus I get a better pump. I also make sure to drink alot of water.

    there's a set of studies showing that 3 meals/day resulted in higher protein retention than 10 meals/day. They didn't compare 6 meals/day.

at the end of the day...really doesn't matter. Studies suggest you get better protein synthesis with a less frequent approach. As far as burning cals go 3 vs. 6 doesn't matter

    It doesn't matter.

However, six 700-calorie meals (what I eat) > six 300-calorie meals.

And just try to have three 1400-calorie meals.
