Can I use a 2nd wireless router as an access point to extend the overall range of my wireless network? I have googled this extensively and have had little success finding complete results or proper solutions for my hardware: Netgear Mr814v2 Wirless router as the access point and Netgear WGR614V4 as the internet connected router? Netgears support site instructions included an address of 0.0.0.0 in part of the static route setup which this router apparently does not support.

I realize there are hardware pieces made for this purpose but I have the extra router lying around, so I was curious if I could use it before buying something. Thanks.

I think the wireless router has to support WDS to do what you are hoping. The Linksys WRT routers support it with alternative firmwares.
