I recently picked up a 5dmkii it needs lenses. Something i can easily admit which is beyond my capabilities but i got it for extremely cheap so being asian i cant say no to a bargain :).

My friend came back to me saying i have a choice of

100mm f2, 50mm f2.5 macro, 24mm f2.8 which are ready for purchase if i wanted any. Im considering the 24mm and im going to ebay a 50mm 1.8 just to get me started while i wait for a 70-200 to pop up for sale. Would a 24mm be a worth while purchase?

    cool.

    have you considered a 12-24 or 11-16?

the 11-16 is 2.8 and wide as hell

the 12-24 is f/4 but still a wide angle

i'm a total newb but primes piss me off. i shoot with the 50 least of all

Well yeah thats the thing i'll be getting everything through a mate of mine. and i can either get whats on stock or just wait a long time for the good stuff. Im thinking just get the 24mm for now if its a worth while lens.

but yeah if i had a choice i would do 16-35 which i hear work well with the FF body.

There's Asian Jews too?! :eek3: I thought you just had to have a camera mounted to your face, not raping the seller on a purchase. :hsugh:

:eek3: you really did rape the seller on that deal

Save up the extra bucks to get the good lens. If you don't you'll just have a mad case of buyer's remorse. :hs:

Primes have their place and sometimes the image quality of a prime over a zoom is worth the trouble of some foot work for framing.

It's a fantasy of mine. :hsughno: if you're gonna go primes, start planning which one's you're gonna use to cover a spectrum of focal lengths, otherwise zooms might be the way to go for now.

I have the 24/2.8, i love it. I've heard the corners go a tad dark on full frame though.

but then again its such an old lens i only got it because it was second hand and cheap.

    oh really? :sad2:

    I just paid $1350 for a 50D,
    I wish I could've paid an extra $1k and got a 5D MK2 :sad2:

But yeah, go for the 16-35mm f/2.8L, or the 17-40mm f/4L

    I just picked up a 17-35mm f/2.8L :x:

Shitty lenses are cheap. Most good lenses aren't.
