    Its a 98 SE, 5sp. 5 lug.
Ive got the vin if neeeded too. I checked on the 240 forums and the vin trick was only documented for 96 or before.

SE models came with LSD. I'm pretty sure.

or you can put the rear of the car in the air..spin the tires and both tires should spin in the same direction.

Actually, you should jack it up and spin one tire. The other should spin in the opposite direction. IIRC....

SE models did not come with LSD standard...they had a package with LSD+ABS. Very few have LSDs....There should be a oranage sticker on the casing if it is an LSD

Wait, if it's a late model S13, look for the orange/red sticker on the pumpkin. It normally falls off of S13's, but your S14 may still have it on. If all else fails, rev it up to 3k and drop the clutch. You'll figure the rest out.

It should have ABS, but a surefire way is to look for the ABS idiot light on the guage cluster.

why no? thats what every ford product with a LSD does that i have encountered...that is all clutch-type lsd :hs: car in neutral, both wheels off ground they should spin in same direction. :dunno:

This holds true 95% of the time ONLY if the car is in gear...if it's in neutral, then all bets are off, b/c the driveshaft may the path of least resistance and it will spin rather than the other wheel.

best way to test is turn the wheel back and forth, half a turn at a time...the other wheel will turn the opposite direction at every change in rotation direction.

Make sure you've driven it a while to heat up the fluid in the differential incase it is a vLSD; results will be flawed in the fluid is cold.

the car should "not" have ABS - it was NOT standard. It was an optional package, most of the 240s running around to day DO NOT have ABS.

It isn't a big deal if there isn't LSD - just go pick up a '95 J30 diff. It is the same thing, cost about 300bucks.

If its a nice S14 and a good price: 7-9k - I would jump on it. VLSD = easily obtained.

Dont pay more then 10k for an S14 no matter how much of a "demand" there is for them, thats just plain stupid.

You can't do a simple burn out to see if theres two tire marks, there are many open differentialed-240s that can leave 2 marks on the ground.
