23" or 30" Cinema Display really worth it?

I'm in the market for a new display, but I don't wanna drop a few g's on a cinema display if it's not worth it. I was considering just going with Dell's 24" LCD for a LOT less. What'd you all recommend?

It's pretty hard to beat the Dell 24" right now

There are a few used ones going for mid-high 600's as well.

I read a review where the Dell beat out the Apple in image quality and functionality too

Not to mention a longer warranty with the Dell, more ports, and probably better support.

My 2405FPW went dead after 7 months. Talked to Dell at 5:00PM EST, they shipped a new one out, and it was literally here 9:05AM the next morning. That's fast.

I went with the 23" ACD when I ordered my system. Really, only because it would've matched my setup and since my stuff sits in plain site when entering the house it's like a piece of furniture when not on.

Oh, plus I got 15% off through a friend at Apple.

So it looks like I'm going Dell, unless someone can convince me otherwise.

If you're like me and will have buyer's remorse if you don't have the best thing, then get the Apple.

A million people will tell me all the bad things about something I want, but if I want it, it's going to be mine. Most of the time, though, I realize everybody was right and try to recoup my losses and buy what everybody told me to buy in the first place.

The 24" screen is absolutely huge, too.

I know... I wanted the Dell over Apple when I bought mine too.

I'm just saying, Apple is definitely more aesthetically pleasing. If he's going to regret it by going Dell, then he should go with Apple.

I read things about higher dead pixel counts and light leakage from the edges. I believe they fixed the latter, but the pixel thing is still hit or miss and you have to have more than 6 or in key areas to get a refund. The Apple displays have next to none more often. Higher Q/A.

With the Dells you get the component hookups too. So you can hook in a DVD player or game system and play in HD.

I haven't heard anything about the 2407's, but just the 2007's (binding issues i think). What problems are the 2407's having?

I've got an Apple 30" in my office and a 23" in my kitchen, both see a lot of use every day. I have yet to have a problem with either and the image quality is excellent.

Like someone else already mentioned, I too consider them to be furniture and so appearance is important to me and worth the extra $$$. I'm sure you will be happy with either Dell or Apple and if $$$ is a concern, the Dell will free up some cash to spend / save elsewhere.

My advice is to purchase the largest monitor you can afford. The 30" has changed the way I use the computer and I would choose a single 30" over a smaller dual setup anyday.

Hmm... I've purchased two Dell LCD displays so far and while the 2005fpw had some backlight issues (almost unnoticeable), all of them had no dead pixels. The 2405fpw can't be any more perfect than it already is

I'm not saying your guaranteed to get some. Just a higher rate is all.

I have 2 20" ACD's and I love them. They match everything nicely and have firewire ports which I use quite a bit. Granted, I have more use for USB ports, but the closeness of the firewire is very nice.

ACD is way overpriced, true story... asthetics would be the only reason to buy one, since everyone except apple has come down on price with their panels.

I have the 20 ACD at home, and had the 20 Dell at work at my old job for about 6 months. Without a doubt, the style of the shell is the only benefit the Apple has over the Dell. If I was to buy today, I would go for the Dell hands down.
