    hey guys

i'm looking at building a STEN type SMG, but in a .22LR as the rounds are easier to get than 9mm. if effective range is 50m i'll be happy.

problem is, the .22 has a rimmed casing, just wondering how well it will auto mag feed, and will it have enough recoil to recock the STEN.

also if anyone has any plans for it, let me know.

    cheers boys.

Things like "effective range" and "auto mag feed" make it sound like you want to build an illegal automatic defense gun.

    Say it ain't so.

Just to answer the question, I would think that a Sten is a simple enough design that it could be re-created (or at least something similar) in most machine shops, although the quality would depend on your equipment. As for just an average middle aged man's toolchest, I doubt you'd be able to build anything that actually worked well, though if you just want a replica it wouldn't be that hard to make something out of pipes and sheet metal. Though in Australia, I imagine that would be illegal too. Is it even legal to look at pictures of guns over there?

I think it would be a lot of work. Making a bolt that fit in the tube would probably be too heavy to use .22LR unless you had some skillz on a mill. Also, Stens fire from an open bolt, which is a lot harder to make semi-auto than closed bolt guns. Im sure there are some plans for closed bolt Stens but probably not in .22.

i was thinking the .22 bolt and assoiciated parts may be a bit fiddly, but considering 9mm rounds are $40 per box of 20, and only $5 for a box of 50 .22 rounds, the drama may be worth it.

the ease of manufacture and the practicality of it all are 2 different things, i know, but if it keeps me off the streets, then i consider it worthwhile.

i appreciate the posters offering proper comments. to hell with the other douches.

If you want "proper" comments, make "proper" threads. Quit asking for advice on manufacturing illegal weapons on a PUBLIC forum.
