Wheres the best place to buy .223 ammo and what kind should I look for? Looking for quality and quantity with a cheap pricetag.

  2. I'd avoid Wolf like the plague. Got no problem with Russian ammo, in general; Barnaul, Silver Bear/Brown Bear/Golden Bear, Uly, Vmypal is fine, but I won't touch Wolf anymore.

    Tula/Wolf is not MilSpec.

Tula/Wolf is not a member of SAMMI or any other standards setting agency.

Tula/Wolf has had significant QC issues.

Go to AR15.com. There is an ammo forum with a stickied ammo thread that has up to date prices and availability of all the "best" .223 ammo.

    Silverbear and Goldenbear is alright.

Wolf and Brown bear just fucking SUCK. You have got to be an incredibly cheap fuck to want to shoot that lacquered steel case shit.

I stick to brass anyways, there is so much surplus out there, there is no reason why you'd buy that crap.

i know, but not that much. It should be only about 60-70% of it. They list prices low, then jack up on "shipping and handling" to offset it. :noes: At least, IMO

We shot a lot of .223 polymer coated wolf through my friends new LMT ar15. It worked great, and no malfunctions.

We also got some Monarch .223 that has the laquered cases, and it is TERRIBLE. I mean, it shot just fine, but the laquer got all over the chamber, and all over our hands when loading the magazines.

:hs: IMO the wolf is a very good choice for cheap plinking, as long as its the new polymer stuff.

Wolf Polymer is the stuff I usually use to practice. It burns dirtier, but I went through 2k rounds of it in my AR without cleaning, and everything functioned perfectly, no malfunctions, the whole time. Then I cleaned it, took it to a class, and had a two malfunctions with IMI commercial 55 gr. within a couple of rounds of each other. Granted, the malfunctions were due to the lack of lube caused by cooking all the CLP out of the rifle, but still.

I prefer Ammoman too, slightly higher but I hate having shipping added on later.

I'd stay away from Olympic ammo. I bought a case last year at my local gunshow, and out of the 125 rounds I tried to fire, I had too many double feeds, FTF and FTE to count. I think maybe 10(out of 125)rounds fed and fired properly.

For 1000 rounds of Federal American Eagle ammo (best "cheap" non-surplus ammo out there, imo)

    Natchezss:

    Subtotal Items: $184.50
    Shipping: $15.89
    Insurance: $ 0.80
    Order Total: $201.19

    from ammoman.com:

    $229-1000 Rounds.
    Free shipping.

    which would you rather buy?

$202 after Natchez's "raping" shipping costs or $229 with free shipping from ammoman?

I just ordered from ammoman, and i always go back there because i dont ever get the runaround that i get other places. I got 1000 rounds M855, and it was on my doorstep within 36 hours of ordering it, and the price you see is the price you pay, no extras.
