I found a interesting piece awhile back and figured I might get come help figuring out what exactly it is. (History, location, use) The back of the round says "Cartridge Drill" on top and around the bottom, "M18A1 20mm Gun"

Dude, that is a huge fucking slug on the end of that casing.

Is that for an anti-air gun, or a mini-gun, or something?

That's what I'm trying to get some info on, I've heard it was used in WW2 planes but I've found no info to verify that. Wiki says "most" 20mm contain explosive rounds.

As big as that is, it's clearly not for anti-personnel use. I'd be pretty confident that it's intended for use against armor, whether in the air or on the ground.

It could be incendiary. The back of the slug looks rounded, like it's a hollow enclosure sealed off with a stamping press instead of a solid casting.

I hope it's disabled, at any rate. It would suck for something that big to go off if you dropped it just right.

It's a dummy round for starters, so it aint being used in shit.

20mm are mainly anti aircraft etc. Oerlikons and the likes.

Its been through its fair share of abuse. I think it still needs a firing pin. No intentions of ever attempting to set it off.

I'm not too sure what to make of it but when I google I get this

    M18A1 20mm. Drill Cartridges for M1, AN-Ml and BR. HS/A guns.

All the other references I have found to M18A1 are claymores or have the wrong ammunition size to be this round.

Do you happen to have a clearer shot of the rear?
