Im looking into getting my first DSLR and i have been looking at the Xti mainly but i found a good deal (or what i believe to be a good deal) on a 20d. now if i went with the 20d would i regret it? just wondering what OTAP thinks

20d without a doubt. the difference in ergonomics alone make it the only choice.

The only thing better you'd get with the XTi is new. The 20d outclasses it in every other aspect.

From what I've seen, the image quality from the XTi is actually better than the 20D (processor).

That being said, I'd still buy an older prosumer body over a newer entry level body.

Depends on how much you want to spend. Theres the Tamron 28-75 F2.8 which is nice. Some people say the Image quality is comparable to an L lens, personally I hate the LOAD focus motor. Theres also the Sigma 17-70 F2.5-4.5 Great range, but variable aperture. Sigma also has a 24-70 F2.8, havent tried it first hand though.

 what are they smoking? Pass it around.

I had a 28 75 2.8 as a beginner lens. It's decent, but no where near the sharpness of an L lens.

A good mid-range walkaround is the Tamron 17 50 2.8. 28mm on a 1.6x crop body is a bit long for most people unless you have space to work with.

I didnt make the claim that it was. I said some people claim that is was  I hated the lens. You are right about the 28mm on a crop body though. That was another reason I sold it.

Sorry to bump an old post, but do any of you guys know of any programs I can use to control the bracketing on my 20D? I'm trying to take a range of about 8 exposures all controlled via my computer. Any software / scripts for doing this?

:dunno: my 28-75 is extremely sharp... sharp enough to not justify the price tag for the L counterpart.... eventually though, when I can afford to buy it I will get the L simply for the better focusing... that's my only complaint about the tamron, it's to slow..
