With the Internet bursting with ugly tales of GT-R launch control abuse, broken transaxles and void warranties, a nasty rumor began; that the 2010 Nissan GT-R won't have launch control.
    Could it be? Really?
So we asked and asked and asked. We asked three Nissan employees: one from the public relations department, one from engineering and one high-ranking executive. The first two confirmed its removal was being considered seriously, but the decision had not yet been made. Then the high-ranking executive confirmed the bad news.
"It's gone," he said when asked if launch control would return in 2010. "We just don't want to deal with the warranty nightmare anymore. It'll make the 2009 GT-R really special. It'll be the only R35 with launch control." -- Kelly Toepke, News Editor

    Failssan.

If 500 whp TSi's can launch on butter soft tires all around multiple every weekend for months without dropping a tranny and then drive home afterwards, nissan could do something. Alas...

    :ugh:

this basically renders all of the GTR's magic performance numbers useless.

The sad thing is im sure they will continue to quote the MY08 models performance times over the lifetime of the car.

What is 1/4 mile with launch control on and off? How big of a difference does it make?

Most likely around half a second

i have seen the 0-60 reported as low 4's without the LC.

No biggie then. Anybody concerned with half a second will most likely get an accessport or something, which will easily make up for the time lost and then some.

The fuss is more about the weakness of the gearbox, and nissan simply giving in when it comes to fixing it :o

I'm confused; shouldn't removing the launch control put more stress on the drivetrain? Or is the problem that the rapid changes in torque that the launch control causes will fatigue the drivetrain?

no, because owners aren't ballsy enough to do a full throttle stand still start, which is more or less what launch control does

yep im fairly sure abusing it with hard launches will result in the same outcome.

Look I don't want to argue with you, but GTRs without LC ad in Auto are doing mid 11s

if you haven't seen it, that doesn't mean they aren't, it just means you are waiting for someone to post a video of it so you can believe it.

    ok

but that would be with a dragstrip rollout right? And numbers like 11.7?

even launching the car hard in auto mode will damage the gearbox just as badly as the launch control does. Its the same difference.

people are running 11.6 all day without l.c.

the difference w/ l.c. is minimal

no, it's not. you won't get the wheel hop that the l.c. forces to that that extra .1 sec. (like anyone cares or can tell the difference)

and without out turning off the vdc you don't void any warranty

and guess what, folks are running the 11.6 all day and transmissions are NOT falling apart. wow, imagine that. :eek3:
