KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. - December 22, 2008 (WPVI) -- Police are looking for the thieves who stole 23 high powered guns from a firearms dealer.

It happened outside Kildare's Irish Pub near the Valley Forge Convention Center.

Upper Merion Township Police say the victim went to the bar last night for dinner after the gun show ended. The thieves broke into his pick up truck and stole a variety of weapons including machine guns and sniper rifles.

The value of the stolen guns is more than $200-thousand.

Why would you leave that kind of stuff in your truck. I wonder if they were watching him or just got lucky.

  3. What a fucking idiot. You'd have to be braindead to leave $200k worth of weapons in your truck while you go into a bar.

Was he a dealer coming back from a show? heading to a show? Perhaps he was just stopping for a burger... Too much information not known....

that's the thing though- when you've got a trunk full of valuable and dangerous items, you don't "just stop for a burger" because something like this might happen.

consider it an expected value problem, and even if the risk of being robbed THAT day is low, the impact of being robbed that day is too high...

That's what I was thinking. I'd imagine that a gun dealer would have the common sense not to go into a bar with 200k worth of merchandise sitting unguarded in his truck. If you're hungry, stop at a damn drive-through.

HAHA, Really? Sounds just as dangerous as a semi trailer loaded w/ ammunition or explosives stopping at a truck stop for some food and a break.

Sounds like it's his business, you can't be in the truck 24x7 if you're travelling a long distance.

Not saying it's the case, just curious as there aren't any other details given.

    Always avoidable.

But I take my chances, especially when it's one of those thousand mile trips.

I used to live and work in the same shopping center from that bar. The convention center the hold the gun show is less than a mile down the road. He may have been coming from the show and stopped for a bite to eat.

In general that is a high income area that draws thieves due to the money the clientele in the area. A very upper class shopping mall is in the area.

If I had anything remotely that valuable in a car, I wouldn't stop and let the car out of my sight.

you make a good point, but you have to wonder as to the effort he put into not being a victim.

Yeah there's a practical limit to what he should be expected to do though. Would this be news and would we be having this discussions if it were a vendor from a computer show who stopped at the pub on the way home for a sammich and had a box of cpu's and ram stolen from his truck?

If it were me I probably would have tried to park somewhere I could eat and watch my car from a window just to avoid the hassle but if the doors were locked , the stuff was covered, and he wasn't in the hood I think it is about all you can do if you're making a long drive.

He's going to sell the weapons at a ridiculous markup to shitheads that don't care if they're illegal and collect on the insurance

I bet he folds under interrogation.
I'd look for gambling / drug debts.
