Right now, my daily driver is a 2003 Lexus IS300... runs just fine and everything, but it's getting up there in miles, and my M5 is sucking enough of my money up in terms of gas and maintenance. I've been seriously considering a new Jetta TDI. I've driven the 2.5L and I like the way it drives, and even that was peppy enough for a daily driver. What does OT think?

Yeah, I'm a little mixed on the outside of the car, but I really like the inside quite a bit. The MPG is one of the main reasons, but also, factoring in insurance, gas, maintenance and everything else, I would save about $300-$400 a month going with the Jetta TDI. Now I gotta hunt one down to test drive :wiggle:

I take care of two of my buddies TDIs. Both are 2006. The interior is nicer, but with slightly cheaper materials than my 2003 Jetta. I got to drive the 09 (same body style inside and out) but with the new diesel engine.

Maybe I needed some more seat time but with the 6 speed it didn't feel nearly as fast or torquey as my 03 diesel with only a diesel tuning box (200 ft lbs).

I will likely sell my 03 in the spring for a demo 09.

My boss has an '09 Jetta TDI he just got. He loves it. Gas mileage is great with the new diesel engines.

He plans on converting it to bio-diesel after 10,000 miles. Which I don't really approve of but hey, its his car.

There is a dude on tdiclub.com who has converted his brand new 09 TDI to B100. You should have your boss watch the thread.

    The new TDI's are awesome.

They've went to work on really subtle engine changes from the EURO spec model as apose to the NA Model. Im pretty sure they come in Automatic or 5spd MT only.. Never heard of the 6 spd option on the TDI.

Worth the penny, think about the Jetta TDI wagon as well

Hey guys, I've got a 2009 Jetta Tdi in Auto (DSG) and i had a chance to dyno it yesterday.

It peaked at 137 whp and 237 wtq on a mustang dyno.

A manual transmission car put down 139 whp and 240 wtq

the fuel consumption isn't the greatest in the city (approx 33-35 mpg) but on the highway, it's great!

I love the thing to death. Just recently got my first service at 5000 miles.

    Definately worth the buy!

Yeah, I'm thinking I might get the DSG. I've never owned an automatic car, so I figure it might be nice for my long-ish commute.

FIX YOURSELF :squint: DSG != automatic. A car doesn't have to have a clutch you push down on with your foot to be considered a manual.

On a MUSTANG dyno it made to the wheels what its advertised at the engine?

Thats unreal. That means this car could dyno 25% higher than advertised at the wheels on a dynojet????

Well, I went and test drove one today, and started signing papers... should be picking it up tomorrow... It's got the DSG, Platinum Grey exterior, anthracite interior, and 17" wheels. I'll get pics tomorrow hopefully :x:
Now I just gotta sell my IS300... I drove the M5 to the dealership, and the guy thought I was using that for my trade-in

No joke....... hell, it seems like VW underrated this thing all over the place

    First in engine performance
    Second in fuel consumption.

    Basically, the dyno indicates
120 hp from 2850 rpm to 4200 rpm with hp peaking at 3600 rpm
180 tq from 1700 rpm to 4000 rpm with tq peaking at approx 2250 rpm

im happy as hell with my car

I did the baseline test with Quadcomm and doc_m from tdiclub.com I'm going to get an aligator tune with Quadcomm, hence the baseline on a stock DSG.

So, I picked it up and all is awesome... its very comfortable, and picks up very well. The best part is that I'm averaging 45mpg on my commute

I went to the dealer today to see about getting VW's bluetooth deal installed... they want $399

Anyways, the car is great, no regrets at all. I'll try and get pictures later if it's not raining.

I had enough of this thread and bought an 09 yesterday.

    Manual
    White
    Highline
    Dark leather
    Sirius (450)
    Integrated bluetooth (375)

Will know of delivery time tomorrow.

I could not get larger wheels from dealer as upgrade unless I paid full pop through parts.

Awesome! I'm thinking about doing the Bluetooth also (probably get it installed sometime this week). I'm having a bit of a windnoise issue so they are replacing a window seal... otherwise, the car has been great! I've driven 250 miles and I'm just below 3/4 on the original tank of diesel.
