So we've decided on Samurai S710's through the poll. This is my attempt at a mega post about them.

These are Samurai Jeans. Here is a little segment that Blue in Green (BiG)has written about them.

Let's see, where to being. These jeans are shrink to fit, or unsanforized. This means that the cotton used has not be pre-shrunk, and so generally they will shrink an inch to two inches in the waist, about two to three inches in the inseam, and about half an inch everywhere else. Size accordingly. Also, BiG, has stated that the waist will measure one inch smaller than what the size chart says pre-wash, which is common with heavier weight denims (and has nothing to do with the lots).

They are also raw jeans, if you need me to explain that you probably shouldn't be in this contest, but if you're still interested check the first page of the denim thread, Rev is awesome.

Now, about the whole lot deal. Apparently, lot 10 jeans from Samurai had a lot of sizing problems, i.e. a tagged 33 would measure 33 or even 32 pre-soak, and would shrink to a 31 or 30. Obviously this is a problem, however at this point all of the old lot 10 jeans are gone, and everything we'll be getting will be lot 11, which will have no sizing problems.

Here is a size chart, from BiG.

Feel free to PM me if you've got questions about sizing, or aren't sure which size to pick. That or just post in this thread.

Here are a bunch more pictures, from BiG and 2nd

I am still working on a start date, I think well try to get them all shipped out around mid August, and have the start date late August early September, in case anyone's arrive late.

The only rule is that the jeans have to be untouched (other than a pre-soak fit) until midnight (wherever you are) of the start date. You have to post a picture of the jeans, with tags still attached and untouched (we can tell if you've soaked them or not :squint:) either next to a newspaper the day of any day after the official start date, or next to www.nytimes.com showing the current date. The only valid altercation that can be done before the start date is hemming, but absolutely no soaking.

Also this is a hell of a thread to look through, Samurai thread on SuFu

everyone starts wearing them at the same time. and a throughout the year, you compare results. at the end of the year a winner is declared and he gets showered in women and booze.

    Well that's a good point.

As of right now, there aren't really any rules, or any judges or any winners. We'd pick one day for everyone to start, a day that we all know that every single person has the jeans. Before that day, you aren't allowed to try on, soak, do anything with them. You can only stare at them, and then that day you have to take a picture, with that day's newspaper (i.e. September 3rd, 2008) next to your brand new, untouched jeans still with tags on.

I was hoping we could discuss some sort of a price, along with judges or something. I could see if maybe we could set up a poll on StyleForum and SuFu when we're done, to have a 3rd party vote from a bunch of people that had no involvement at all and really don't know any of OT (other than maybe Yardrail, loliver and bowunt).

Maybe we add $5 or $10 onto whatever the cost ends up being, and if we've got $200 or something that could be spent on some sort of a prize from or gift certificate to BiG or somewhere else.

    I need input on this...

Yeah since the BiG ones have the leaf on them I might try and get a semi solid number and seeing if Gordon would do a discount or free shipping or something :o.

It could make things a lot easier since right now I think the jeans would be $180 proxied, plus shipping to the US and pending how we do shipping here they'd be around $200ish total.

the trick to getting everyone interested is to post pics of some REDONKULOUSLY faded ones

and then everyone jumps on the bandwagon :mamoru:

    No problems :h5:

Feel free to add stuff, or if anyone has anything they think we should put in the first post PM it to me and I'll edit it.

I am seriously looking for opinions on a lot of this stuff, it also depends on the willingness to proxy and the costs, also how fast we can get a fairly solid number (+/- 2) so I can email Gordon and not feel like a complete idiot.

an idea would be to let the main forum vote (i dont really like the idea of taking it over to sufu or style forum)

    advantages:
    broad range of audience
large pool of people voting (hundreds vs. 30-75)
it will garner new interest in raw denim
it will bring more people to TSL

    disadvantages:
trolling and the usual, but after two HUGE denim crew threads in MF (the precursor to TSL) we know how to deal with them.

Sure there will be people who vote for the shittiest pair just to fuck things up BUT:

a)there's not really going to be an outlier to vote for. even if there's a pair of barely faded jeans, they'll still look like a good pair of quality denim
b)by the rule of numbers, the best looking pair will prevail in the end

    thoughts?
