so I just got a sweet deal on a 2007 Xterra offroad (brand new)...

in any case I want to replace the stock CD stereo with a decent full Double DIN CD/DVD player.

I am not sure what to get that is decent and just slides in.

    any advice?

personally I'd go with a pioneer avic-d3. For the money, it's a great unit.

I think you can do Sirius, as well. I found some photos that indicate this does work:

my understanding is that it uses a dvd for the maps.

regardless, putting mp3s on your headunit is pretty fucking stupid. Get an ipod.

Check out the alpine IVA-W200. Its a year or two old but its a great unit and im sure it can be had "cheap". The IVA-W205 is the newer of the two decks. The difference with the 205 is the navigation unit for the 205 get plugged physically right into the deck. Kind of like putting a casette in a casette player. Good luck!

I have an ipod as well. And I use the appropriate cable to listen to it through my headunit.

However, loading mp3s onto the head unit is fucking stupid.

why is it stupid.. if I load songs directly to the unit then I don't have to drag my Ipod around which I don't want to do .

whats the use of the 15GB internal drive if you can't use it?

you would use it to store map POIs and corrections.

How the fuck do you think you get mp3s onto a compatible head unit???? You need a flash drive. So just get the fucking ipod and leave it in the car, and then you can take it inside (like a flash drive) when you want to load music. Oh shit, logic!

exactly what I DON"T want to do is leave my Ipod in my car.

I want to download all my songs into the hard drive of the head unit and play them without the IPOD.

what part of not having to carry and hook my Ipod up to it everytime i want to listen to my music do you not understand?

    jebesus..

leave it in the fucking glove box. You never have to look at it. Hooligans won't know the diff between a headunit that has mp3s vs an ipod in the glovebox.

potty, sometimes what works for you doesn't work for everyone else. Time to pull your head out of your ass maybe a little more. Eventually we'll get you using common sense again!
