What do you guys think? I really like it personally, I'm thinking of trading in my soccer mom mini van (Nissan Murano :o) for something more rugged like this that I can take offroad without worring about scratching or breaking the front wheel drive. An offroad SUV might be fun and would work for me, where I live in the desert there are lots of trails and places to go play on the weekends :dunno: It might not make as good of a daily driver though :dunno:

Daimler Chrysler says it is supposed to be actually more refined and quiet inside the cabin (compared to older models), however I still believe it is not going to be a plush ride like your Murano. It would at least be better offroad and more rugged than that Murano. I have considered getting one, but it really depends on the price and how it feels on/off road.

Anybody know if those pics are correct and they have in fact changed the front axle to IFS? If they have then all my respect for Jeep has just hit the crapper.

Why? I kind of answered that in the post :eek3: I want a nice SUV that is offroad capable, something I wouldnt worry about scratching as much or getting dirty.

It's direct competition to the H3, imho.

im not sure about the front suspension setup, but even if it is SFA, it sits low as hell for its wheelbase. high-center + 1

even with the 20" wheelbase extension, it's only 114" that's actually not to bad. It would work out really well in the trails around here.

i don't like it, i think jeep should be more concerned about making them offroading machines as opposed to catering to suburban mothers

staying behind the times and not updating your production is a good way to go out of business...look at what happened to International Harvester

but the new 3.8L V6 I can guarentee it will not last as long as the 4.0L I6 did. Even if they had their problems they still ran. Plus the power output (torque) is not nearly gonna give you that power in the low band. I guess we will have to wait and see.

However, I agree that Jeep definitely needed a revamp and by doing so they prove to be in existence in the coming years. I am just not sure whether or not this is a good revamp or not yet.

The 4.0 will be missed... but my Jeep has one and I don't plan on upgrading any time soon.

    Breaking news :eek3:

The new Jeep has a more raked grill, longer wheelbase, curved windshield etc... it'll be a LOT more refined than the current box.

Although if you really want refinement with off road capability, get a previous model Overland Grand Cherokee with the high output 4.7L V8 yet it still has solid axles at both ends. It's not quite as rugged as the Wrangler because it's a monocoque (Wrangler has a body on frame construction) but it's a lot more capable than any other SUV in it's class.

My personal concerns with the new Wrangler are the engine (If they'd just put a 5.7 in it all would be good) and I think the dashboard is horribly laid out and pretty ugly (rule 1: AC vents at the top). Otherwise it's pretty damn good and more of the same.

i'm not saying that you shouldn't update, but over the past 10 years or so, the jeep has become more of a middle aged female vehicle and it seems that jeep is catering to them more than they do the hard core offroading crews. I love the harvester, and i really wish they were still available. i hate new cars w/ all their electronics and shit in them. i'm an oldfashioned 19 year old, :noes:

With very few exceptions... There's a simple rule in car design and that's "don't fuck with an icon".

Vehicles like the Wrangler, Mustang, Corvette, etc you need to be VERY careful about changing.

I agree 100%. Also, add the Camaro to that list as well as a few more vehicles.

the wrangler (add to that the later Cj models as they were the basis of the wrangler) has lived a VERY long life...true, there is a great market for them. ther is a bigger market for an updated model though...it just doesnt need to be ugly as sin.
