Anyone test drive one of these? They look pretty cool! I read that you can also get an optional TRD supercharger for these things to make 300 horses. I definately gotta check one out some time...

    I've been thinking about it.

I thought about purchasing one of these to go alongside my Canyon. Then, I could have a sport truck and off-roader.

I haven't gotten to test driving one yet, but they look very nice.

there's no s/c for it. There may be in the future, but not currently. The 01-04 had a s/c, but that was the 3.4L V6 and it was a modified roots s/c. The rumor is that they're working on a centrifugal s/c for the new 4.0L V6.

From the latest Sport Truck magazine:

Four trucks ran up for "Sport Truck of the Year", the X-Runner, Dakota, Quad Cab SRT 10 and the Frontier. The X-Runner won.

    4.0L X-Runner: 1/4: 14.92 @ 93.10 0-60: 6.90s
    4.0L Frontier: 1/4: 15.51 @ 89.62 0-60: 8.05s
    8.3L SRT-10: 1/4: 13.85 @ 102.11 0-60: 6.03s
    4.7L Dakota: 1/4: 16.12 @ 83.82 0-60: 8.53s

The X-Runner has some very impressive handling.

Yeah it does. I don't know about everyone else, but I'm a little disappointed on the SRT-10..I was thinking it would do better than that? How much power are they making again?

After driving it around, it handles like it's on freakin RAILS. It's definitely a fast bitch too. I was really shocked. I've driven a supercharged S-Runner, and the n/a X-Runner would hold its own. It was faster than a friend's 350Z in a straight line, out handled it, and hauled shit at the same time. Actually held dead even with a 2005 Mustang GT as well... not that the Mustangs are worth half a shit.

I figured the weight would have something to do with that...traction would be an issue too huh? 8.3l would make alot of torque and no real weight on the rear tires would definately be having some noice wheelspin

i'm thinking the drivers we all non-driving fucks.....the SRT-10 should have been a very low 13, and the 4.7 dakota should have been a 15.5 to 15 flat..unless it was a quadcab...i dunno about the other 2......opinions?

the dakota doesn't drive like it should be a 15flat. Have you driven it? The tacoma definitely has more pick-up-and-go. The dakotas gearing and fat-ass weight isn't helping it. I've never driven an SRT-10, so no comment there.

The Tacomas definitely drive stronger than they should be. I did a 1st-2nd-3rd burnout in a V6 double-cab 6-speed on a recent test drive, and it just kept pulling. I'm really surprised.

Maybe it's time to get a new Tacoma?

I dunno. I'll go test drive another dakota, but last time I did not get the feeling it was quick. "sufficient" is how I'd describe it.

Well, I drove a 2k5 taco today... Nothing too impressive about it. I must say that I'm much more impressed with the 2k5 frontier. The Nismo Crew Cab with 4-wheel limited-slip is looking mighty fine

I think it's time for an X! It's good to run into another CT'er

If I get a job soon like i'm hoping, then next summer I'm hoping to have enough coin to pick one up.

As much as I love the 05 Taco's, I have noticed that they have a flaw. Some of them have had bad thermostats from the factory. I saw an X on ebay with 15 miles listed and they had already replaced the motor, same with one that I saw in person at a local dealership. Both listed that the cause was bad thermostat. The result was blown headgaskets and cracked (aluminum) blocks.

I misread the ebay auction, sorry. For some reason, Mozilla isn't letting my paste anything, so I am unable to post the link right now. Doesn't matter though, what I thought read that they replaced the motor in the x-runner, was them talking about replacing the motor in an '88 from a different auction. The one truck that I know got a new motor was local, a friend that works at the dealership told me about it. So, it may not be as big a deal as I had thought.

well, 1 bad tstat is unfortunate, but I highly doubt that is cause for a big stink about ALL tacos.

Also, I would blame the customer, as the taco has a very good cluster... Even 10 degrees F. is enough to visibly register... So they should have known there was a problem with the tstat.
